What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children are greeted by friendly, welcoming staff and arrive happily. Parents comment that they are impressed that the staff remember their children's names from the previous camp.

Children have access to a varied range of activities. They are eager to spend time in the swimming pool. The lifeguard and swimming teacher complement the camp staff to ensure children swim safely.

Staff are observant and understand children's individual needs. For example, they notice when a young child has an accident and sensitively help them to change. The well-resourced play area for the younger children is set up, so that children can make... independent choices in their play.

They follow instructions and proudly show the jet rockets they make with construction bricks. They chase their friends excitedly through the soft play tunnels. Children comment that they look forward to playing with their friends and have favourite activities, such as the bow and arrow.

Children behave very well. Staff are excellent role models. They are kind and playful.

They praise children's positive behaviour and are quick to identify when children may need reassurance and emotional support. There are good systems in place to ensure children's safety, such as the arrival and departure routines. The premises are well organised with base areas to play and eat.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Parents are very happy with the club. They say the staff are 'lovely' that they 'trust' the staff and they provide 'amazing' activities. They report their children are eager to attend and their social skills are promoted when they make new friends.

Children have many opportunities to develop their physical skills. The older children enjoy team games, such as basketball, in the large indoor space. The younger children practise their climbing and balancing skills using the imaginative equipment in the outdoor area.

Staff are attentive and enthusiastically organise children's activities. However, sometimes children wait too long for the activities to start as, occasionally, staff do not appear to have decided what is happening next.Staff receive training in specific activities, which helps them to understand how to tailor these to each group of children.

All staff complete safeguarding training and wear a lanyard, which reminds them of their safeguarding contacts. They receive behaviour management training to ensure consistency and agree to a code of conduct. The staff have regular supervision sessions where practice is discussed, and any training needs identified.

Staff talk enthusiastically about how they feel part of the team and that they are encouraged to progress within the organisation.Children sit with each other at snack times, providing a pleasant, social occasion where they chat with their friends. Staff support children to choose what to eat at snack time and young children are given the time they need to finish their lunch.

Staff are aware of any allergies and the camp ask parents not to pack any products containing nuts to protect children's health.Children know it is important to drink regularly when playing energetically. They carry their water bottles with them.

Staff encourage them to drink more often when the weather is particularly hot. They ensure they have regular breaks to cool down.Staff build effective relationships with children.

They are sensitive to children's feelings, and support them well as they settle in. Staff play alongside children, encouraging them and checking out they understand the rules of the game. This helps children to feel secure within the camp.

The management team regularly evaluate the service offered. The camp has introduced 'my day at camp' forms because of feedback from parents at a recent questionnaire. The camp timetable is tweaked after receiving children's feedback to ensure they continue to enjoy all the activities offered to them.

Children learn many new games. They learn to cooperate and work as a team. They enthusiastically call instructions to their teammates while playing a game.

Children know they need to check their shoelaces to keep themselves safe when running around. Children are eager to join in and laugh often.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

The manager and staff understand their roles and responsibilities in keeping children safe. They recognise the signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk of harm. All staff understand the reporting procedures to follow if concerned about a child's welfare.

They confidently demonstrate their knowledge of what to do if an allegation was made against an adult on the premises. This is an improvement from the last inspection. The club follows a robust recruitment process for staff, to protect children.

The club has access to large grounds. To ensure children are kept safe there are safety procedures to follow when children are escorted to different parts of the site. For example, staff are placed at the front and back of the group of children, and regular headcounts are completed.
