What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children are warmly greeted by friendly and enthusiastic staff. They are keen to become engaged in the exciting range of activities available to them.

Children thoroughly enjoy swimming in the on-site pool. They use floats and other swim inflatables to enhance their pleasurable experience.The children have formed close bonds with all staff.

Children enjoy sharing their own experiences from home and staff listen attentively. Staff ensure they know children extremely well before they start at the club. They obtain information about children's likes and dislikes, including activities they particularly enjoy.

Staff us...e this information to help sustain children's interests. Coupled with huge amounts of reassurance, those children who may be new or settling back into the club feel safe and secure.Children's behaviour is impeccable.

They have a clear understanding of the rules and boundaries of the holiday club. Staff are passionate and dedicated in ensuring children have the best possible time. Children have a positive attitude and are keen to engage in new activities.

They display high levels of confidence and are happy.During the first national lockdown, children were unable to attend the club. However, the provider made frequent contact with families to ensure children's well-being.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Partnerships with parents/carers is effective. Parents comment that the club is, 'fun and fantastic'. They state that they cannot praise it highly enough and are, 'excellent in all that they do'.

Parents talk about children's excitement to return and how they have made new friends.Staff provide a wealth of activities to keep children engaged and motivated. Children thoroughly enjoy cooking opportunities, such as baking.

To extend this the club has worked closely with the local council. They have secured funding to provide healthy food and enriching activity programmes for all children.Opportunities for children to be active are exemplary.

Children enjoy the freedom of being able to run in large open spaces. They engage in field sports, swimming, tennis and assault courses. They learn how to be part of a team and work extremely well together.

Indoor activities for children are also well planned. Staff design a stimulating range of activities that meet all children's interests. For instance, children climb to the top of a large inflatable and then squeal with excitement as they slide back down.

They make flamingos by painting their hands and making prints.Children make 'fruit salads' and play a good range of floor and board games. All children are extremely complimentary about the club.

The provider is highly skilled and ensures all staff maintain their professional development. For instance, staff attend training to further enhance their knowledge around children's behaviour. They understand how some activities may seem overwhelming to children and ensure quieter interests are always available.

Staff state that the club is an amazing place to work and how they feel continuously supported by the provider. They work exceptionally well together as a team and strive for continuous improvement to benefit children. For instance, they have recently created an innovative 'slip and slide' area for children, using a dampproof membrane and a hose, to children's delight.

Children have excellent opportunities to learn to cook. Staff have purchased 'table-top' cookers to enable children to work in pairs to make delicious and healthy dishes. For example, children make 'chilli-con-carne' and 'vegetable curry'.

Staff make up recipe books for children to take home to encourage them to cook with their family.The provider and staff reflect well on their practice. They have a clear understanding of their strengths and areas they would like to develop.

For instance, they would like to extend 'forest school' opportunities for children. This will enable children to take on more challenging and risky tasks to benefit their independence and confidence.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

Staff have a clear understanding of child protection procedures and how to recognise when a child might be at risk of harm. They attend frequent safeguarding training to keep their knowledge updated. They are aware of any welfare concerns relating to extreme views or behaviours.

Children's safety is paramount to staff. They make sure children have a 'swim test' before entering the pool and, where appropriate, children wear floats. There is also a qualified lifeguard present when children are swimming to ensure their safety.
