Description of the setting

Kidscamp is a service provided by the Parents Consortium and is a registered charity. It registered in 2007 and operates from a large adapted building in Hextable in Kent.

The premises consist of a large playroom, a dining room, a lounge, kitchen, toilet facilities, several rooms used for administration and a training suite/staff room. The setting also has a large enclosed outdoor play area and additional sensory cabin containing a soft playroom and a sensory room. It is registered on the Early Years Register and compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register for 22 children aged five to eight years.

Kidscamp also provides a service for children up to the age of 17 year...s. The setting is open each weekday during school holidays from 9.30am to 4pm.

During term time, additional clubs are also available depending on demand. Children come from a wide catchment area. The setting currently supports children with profound/severe physical, learning, or sensory impairment.

The setting employs 70 members of staff in total. Of those working with children under eight years, over half hold appropriate qualifications and attend regular short courses. At the time of the inspection there were no children on roll who are in the early years age range.

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision Kidscamp meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. Management implement suitable recruitment procedures to check that staff are suitable to care for children and gain appropriate background checks. The large staff team undergo induction procedures and training.

This supports all staff in gaining a consistent understanding of the policies and procedures across the setting. Through discussion, staff show a clear understanding of how to promote children's health, learning and development. They explain how they work closely with other specialist agencies to promote children's learning and development consistently.

Through discussion, staff show a clear understanding of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding children. They carry out regular risk assessments in order to maintain a safe environment for children to play in. Kidscamp has toys and resources available that would support children in their all-round development.

Furthermore, Kidscamp has a wide range of specialist equipment to support children with profound/severe physical, learning, or sensory impairment. Staff receive regular specialist training that would support them in meeting children's individual needs. Through discussion, the manager is able to demonstrate how the setting promotes inclusive practice.

The setting has suitable systems in place to promote partnerships with parents. In addition, these systems effectively support partnership working with involved agencies to provide continuity for all children. The setting has successfully met all previous recommendations.

The staff team reflect on the provision to keep up-to-date with regulatory requirements. This means that they continue to develop practice knowledge and demonstrate a suitable capacity to sustain improvements.
