Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The school is a harmonious community where adults and children from a wide range of backgrounds enjoy excellent relationships.

Leaders and governors have identified the right priorities to raise standards. Leaders work in strong partnership with staff to improve teaching. They make effective use of training and external partnerships.

For example, a current focus is on ensuring that teaching of writing and mathematics improves. Children in the early years have a varied and rich curriculum. Staff ensure that children learn how to communicate clearly and read well.

Leaders have ensured that teaching is effective. Consequently, child...ren make good progress. Disadvantaged pupils and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) make good progress from their starting points.

They receive effective support that meets their needs. This is also evident for pupils who attend the provision for deaf pupils (Total Communication Base – TCB). Outcomes in English and mathematics are rising across the school.

Leaders are aware that some most-able pupils did not make the progress of which they were capable last year. They are taking steps to address this issue. Pupils' behaviour is exemplary.

They are proud of the role they play in school and highly value the support they receive from all school staff. Pupils have excellent attitudes to their learning and apply themselves diligently to their work. Leaders and governors have ensured that the range of subjects taught is balanced and suitably broad.

The curriculum is enhanced by clubs and, particularly, through a wide range of trips. Pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is actively promoted. Pupils' personal development is outstanding.

They show very high levels of respect for one another's cultural and religious beliefs, learning in a prejudice-free environment, where everyone's opinion is valued. New middle leaders are becoming more effective in their roles. However, their monitoring does not yet contribute to improving outcomes as fully as it might.

Development of middle leadership is a priority in the school to improve pupils' outcomes further. The governing body is well informed, and challenges all aspects of the school's work effectively, while remaining highly supportive.
