Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The headteacher and the deputy headteacher have led the school effectively to make rapid improvement since it opened as an academy.

Leaders have a highly accurate understanding of what is done well within the school and what they still need to do to become even better. Improvement projects have resulted in a long-term impact on the quality of reading and writing produced by pupils. Governors and the multi-academy trust (MAT) provide a good level of both challenge and support.

Their involvement in the school has contributed to the rise in standards achieved. The quality of pupils' work has improved substantially in the last year. Teachers ...have high expectations of what pupils will achieve.

Consequently, pupils are proud of their work and try hard. Outcomes at the end of key stage 2 have risen strongly in 2018 from 2017. Most pupils are making good progress.

Pupils' attainment across the school is now closer to national expectations than in previous years. Teachers have very positive relationships with the pupils in their care. A palpable feeling of community is evident throughout the school.

The early years provision gives an effective start to children's school lives. Routines are established early. Children are engaged and happy in the setting.

Attendance is in line with national averages and persistent absence has declined in the last year. Pupils arrive at school on time. Leaders have introduced new teaching methods to raise standards further in mathematics, but these are not yet fully effective.

The curriculum has a high focus on extending pupils' vocabulary. Leaders are aware that some pupils cannot recall key topic words long term and have prioritised this as an area for development. Pupils behave well, but at times can lack motivation to challenge themselves in their learning.
