Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is an outstanding school The inspirational headteacher leads the school exceptionally well.

He has created a community where adults are inspired to do their very best for pupils, and where pupils are happy, cared for and achieve highly. Teaching across the whole curriculum is outstanding. Teachers' skilful planning, high expectations and creative approach to the curriculum contribute strongly to pupils' rapid rates of progress.

Phonics and reading are especially well taught. The curriculum is enriched by many worthwhile trips and events that broaden pupils' experiences and bring learning to life. Pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding... is developed carefully and they are well prepared for life in modern Britain.

There is a very strong culture of safeguarding. Adults make sure pupils are safe. Pupils have a secure understanding of how to stay safe online.

Attainment at the end of key stage 2 is well above national averages in reading, writing and mathematics. Above-average proportions achieve the high standard. Consequently, pupils are very well prepared for the next stage of their education.

Pupils' behaviour is excellent. They are rightly proud of their school. Pupils love learning, attend school regularly and are courteous, polite and confident.

Children in the early years get an excellent start to their education. They make rapid gains in their levels of development. The nurturing environment and imaginative activities help children develop a love of learning that they take with them as they progress up the school.

Disadvantaged pupils make rapid progress. So do the many pupils who have special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities. Leaders and governors make sure that the school is constantly improving.

Their attention to detail and absolute commitment that every pupil should succeed has made Redlands the outstanding school it is today. Consequently, they are working hard to accelerate further the rates of progress of a few pupils so that they make the same progress as others. Parents are full of praise for the school.

As one parent said: 'Redlands is excellent. My children love it and look forward to going every day.'
