Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school Leaders and governors have high aspirations and know the school well. There is a culture of self-reflection and constant improvement. Effective teaching ensures that most groups of pupils make good progress in reading, writing and mathematics.

In 2017, validated performance information shows that the proportion of Year 2 pupils meeting the expected standard in reading and writing and mathematics was increasing, but still below the national average. However, as most current pupils are making strong progress, standards are now in line with those typical of other schools. Leaders use additional funding wisely.

Disadvantaged pupils are well s...upported and, as a result, most disadvantaged pupils make strong progress. The school has a rich curriculum with a broad range of first-hand experiences. As a result, pupils make strong progress in a wide range of subjects, including outdoor education.

Pupils' learning is well supported by parents and carers. The school has the confidence of the local community. Pupils' personal development, behaviour and welfare are very good.

Pupils are polite, friendly and respectful to adults and to each other. They have positive attitudes to learning, which support their strong progress. Safeguarding is effective, and pupils feel safe.

Leaders use additional funding for sport carefully. Pupils appreciate the sporting facilities provided, alongside other extra-curricular activities. Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is taught effectively.

Pupils are well prepared for life in modern Britain. Teachers track pupils' progress closely and know them well. Most teachers provide work which meets pupils' needs.

There is some variation in expectations between classes. Consequently, the most able pupils are not routinely challenged, especially in mathematics. Children get off to a good start in the Reception Year, although activities do not consistently challenge the most able.

Information about this school

The school is slightly smaller than the average-sized primary school. Pupils are taught in single-aged classes. There are two classes in each year group.

Most pupils are of White British heritage. A much smaller proportion of pupils than the national average is eligible for the pupil premium, which provides additional funding for pupils known to be eligible for free school meals or in local authority care. The proportion of pupils who have SEN and/or disabilities is much lower than the national average, although the proportion with education, health and care plans is above the national average.
