Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The headteacher has high expectations of staff and pupils and she provides strong, passionate leadership. She is proud of the school's successes but determined to ensure that it continues to improve.

Children join the school with attainment that is below that which is typical for their age. By the end of key stage 1, pupils' attainment in reading, writing and mathematics is broadly in line with pupils with similar starting points nationally. By the time that pupils reach the end of Year 6, their progress in writing and mathematics is above average.

Pupils' progress in reading has not been as strong but it is improving. Leaders and governo...rs ensure that the school's curriculum is effective. Pupils are committed to their learning and they participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

Leaders and governors have a clear understanding of the school's strengths and weaknesses. They provide effective challenge and support to improve both the quality of teaching and pupils' outcomes. The quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good.

Teachers plan and deliver activities that enthuse and inspire pupils. They are well supported by a team of very effective teaching assistants. Pupils behave well both in and out of lessons.

They enjoy school and they are grateful for the time and support that they are given by the adults who work there. They are well looked after and kept safe. Expectations of the work that pupils produce are high.

Pupils take pride in their work and they are able to explain what they have done well and what they need to improve. Leadership of the early years is good. This ensures that children get off to a good start to their education and develop positive attitudes to learning.

Leaders are provided with a wide range of support, challenge and training. The leadership of English, mathematics and special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities is well established and has a positive impact on pupils' outcomes. Other areas of middle leadership are less secure.

Pupils' overall absence has decreased this year, but the absence of disadvantaged pupils has slightly increased and remains above average. Differences in progress and attainment between disadvantaged pupils and their non-disadvantaged peers are diminishing. However, the progress of disadvantaged pupils still needs to improve further.
