What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children thoroughly enjoy the time they spend at this welcoming after-school club. They happily arrive at the end of the school day and are clearly familiar with the routines in place. Children take responsibility for their own belongings.

They place their coat and school bag in the cloakroom and eagerly greet their friends and familiar club staff. Children display positive and respectful relationships with the adults who look after them. They smile widely and are very happy to see them at the end of the school day.

Children relax and engage in group discussions. They share jokes and laugh with each other as they make join...t decisions about the activities they wish to take part in. Children work together in groups to make a unique creation.

They collaborate as a team to decide what they will make. Young children assign themselves roles and enthusiastically draw a selection of different animals on paper plates. They use a range of arts and craft materials, such as coloured felt-tip pens, feathers and pipe cleaners.

Young children are confident and proud as they present their creation to the rest of the group. They relish the round of applause they receive for their effort and achievement.

Staff collect young children from their classroom. They use this opportunity to speak with children's class teacher and gather any additional information about their school day. This information is effectively communicated with parents, when they collect from the club later that day.

Children have an exceptional understanding of the club's rules and boundaries. Staff encourage children to recite the rules at the start of each session. This helps those children who are new to the club become familiar with behavioural expectations.

Children understand that the club rules are in place to keep everyone safe. For example, they explain that 'We do not share food with anyone in case someone is allergic and has a reaction.' Staff support children to learn the importance of being healthy and following good hygiene routines.

They encourage children to wash their hands regularly and provide a range of healthy snacks for children to enjoy. Children choose what filling they would like in their tortilla wrap and sit around the table to eat this with their friends.Children enjoy the time spent outside in the fresh air.

They run around the playground freely and play group ball games with their friends and staff. Children display high levels of physical coordination as they excitedly throw, dodge and catch balls.Staff are excellent role models.

They model good manners and remind children to say please and thank you should they forget. Staff provide the youngest children with additional time to think and respond during group discussions. This supports children to feel equally involved and valued, promoting a positive sense of well-being and self-esteem.

Leaders have high expectations of the service they provide. They closely monitor the quality of the club. Leaders regularly visit to observe practice in order to help and guide staff.

Staff work well together to promote the club's ethos and policies. They report that leaders are approachable and they feel supported in their role.Parents speak enthusiastically about their children's experiences at the club.

They express how well their children have settled and how much they love attending. Parents have opportunities to share their views and opinions on the club's service through regular online surveys. Leaders closely monitor comments from parents and use this information when recognising potential areas for improvement.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff demonstrate a secure understanding of the signs that may indicate a child is at risk of harm. They attend regular safeguarding training to ensure they are familiar with the procedures to follow should they need to report a concern.

Staff know where to seek further guidance or advice, whether this is from leaders or from external professionals. The premises are safe and secure. Staff continually reinforce safety guidelines to support children to manage their own safety.

For example, children learn that in the event of the fire alarm sounding, they are not to collect any belongings. Children explain the reasons for this. They state 'This is because the most important thing you brought to club is you.'
