Friendly and experienced staff collect children from the local primary school. Children walk safely to the after-school club. Older children offer to hold hands with younger children to walk the short distance back.

Staff have activities ready for children to access when they arrive. Children can also ask staff for particular resources or group games. For example, children are very keen to find the large skipping rope and to involve staff in their game.

Staff accommodate children's requests. They encourage children to take turns and organise the rules.Staff ...are good role models for children.

They are polite and respectful to each other and to children, who in turn are well behaved and listen well to instructions. Staff support children to access all that the after-school club has to offer. Younger children play alongside older children, who wait patiently as the rules of a game are explained clearly.

Children are enthusiastic as they work together to help staff to organise the Christmas party. They lead activities to make a Christmas tree and personalised wrapping paper. Staff celebrate children's achievements and children proudly show their friends what they have made.

Parents are delighted with the after-school club and the staff who run it. They comment on how accommodating and friendly staff are. Parents feel that their comments and suggestions are taken on board and they would be happy to raise any concerns they may have.

Parents say that the feedback from their children is always positive, particularly about the food at the after-school club.Staff provide children with healthy and well-balanced snacks in the after-school club. They talk to children about being healthy and how exercise and food give them energy.

Children have many opportunities to bake and to make healthy smoothies as part of the activities on offer. Staff encourage children to be independent and make their own healthy choices.Staff recognise that some children may be tired after the school day.

They provide quiet activities, such as lego, so that children can choose to either play alone or in small groups. This helps children that would rather not be part of the main busy area of the club to still remain engaged. Staff check in on children, asking them about their school day and how they feel.

Children report that they really like coming to the after-school club and wish they could come every day. They like the resources on offer and say they can ask for certain activities to be provided. Children like the arts and crafts on offer and talk about the patterns they make on personalised wrapping paper.

Children also comment on how kind and friendly the staff are. They understand the rules of the after-school club, which are reviewed with children on at the start of each term.Children have access to an outdoor play area where they can play team games or enjoy stories.

Children also engage in physical play indoors with skipping ropes and hoops. Staff encourage children to join in or to watch and encourage their friends.Children work together to plan shows and plays for their friends.

They are eager to take part and sing and dance with confidence. Staff help them to plan and write the words to short and humorous plays.Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are very well supported by staff.

For example, staff visit children at school to observe children to ensure that they can be fully included into the club. Leaders feel very strongly that the after-school club should be accessible to all children.Staff know children very well.

They are genuinely interested in chatting to the children and children are relaxed in their company. Staff move around the activities, joining in with children's play without being intrusive.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

Staff are vigilant to the safety and security of the premises. There are procedures in place to ensure that children are only collected by authorised persons. Staff make sure that children are safely supervised throughout their time at the club.

A detailed safeguarding policy is in place that staff and parents have access to. Leaders and staff know the signs and symptoms of abuse and who to contact if they are concerned about a child's welfare. Staff carry our risk assessments of the indoor and outdoor play space in order to keep everyone safe.
