What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Staff welcome children with smiles. This helps children to settle quickly and separate happily from parents. Children enjoy their time at the club as staff plan a wide variety of activities to help them stay engaged.

For instance, children have access to an extensive outdoor area. They can play football, run and chase each other. They laugh excitedly as staff join in their games.

Indoor sensory play is also available outside so that children can enjoy a sunny day. This means children are keen to join in with the interesting and varied activities on offer.Staff are good role models for children.

They are polite, wa...rm and friendly and can skilfully adapt their levels of support and expectations to each child's age. This helps children to settle well. Children are expertly comforted if they become unsettled and are soon engaged in group play.

Staff encourage children to play cooperatively with each other, share resources and confidently manage minor disagreements with ease. Staff are very attentive to children. They listen, ask questions and play with children without intruding on their games.

Children's choices and opinions are valued and respected. Children freely change or adapt activities as their play or conversation develops.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Children are provided with an interesting range of experiences, including cooking, sports activities and arts and crafts activities.

Children show very good levels of concentration and engage in these activities for long periods of time.Staff understand the needs of all the children, especially the youngest children. Children have access to a number of role-play and sensory activities so they can express their emotions.

For example, while role playing with the shop, staff ask children to help write a shopping list and organise 'home deliveries'. Children concentrate well and remain engrossed in play.Staff work hard to make the club inclusive to all.

Quieter, less-confident children are spoken to frequently and encouraged to join in with group activities. Staff observe children during play and move around the activities skilfully to ensure that both the inside and outdoors are supervised appropriately.Staff support children's physical well-being and understanding of healthy lifestyles well.

Children follow positive hygiene practices through daily routines and sociable snack times.Children are independent and confident. They can freely express their wants and needs to staff and other children.

They are well mannered and listen well to the instructions given by staff. Older children remind younger children of the club rules. For example, at snack time, children remind each other that they can only select one item from their lunch box for snack.

Children are imaginative in their play. They use the large construction vehicles to transport rocks and stones around the garden to 'construction sites'. They race the vehicles to see if heavy stones make them go faster.

Children wear hard hats and talk about the weight of the materials they are moving around.Parents are positive about the holiday club. They state their children enjoy attending, enjoy participating in both sports and creative activities, excitedly tell them about their day and enjoy spending time with their friends.

The manager is experienced and effective. She understands the need to reflect and adapt the club on a daily basis according to the ages and numbers of children attending. The manager recruits enthusiastic staff that work very well together.

Staff have completed mandatory training, including paediatric first aid and safeguarding.Children confidently talk about their experiences at the holiday club. Children say that they look forward to coming to see their friends and that there are always exciting things to do.

They particularly enjoy the face-painting sessions and actively make suggestions for future activities.Staff encourage children to express themselves through drama and music. Older children practise dance routines and little shows for their friends, and their efforts are celebrated by the whole holiday club.

This builds children's self-esteem and confidence.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff have a good knowledge and understanding of how to keep children safe at the holiday club.

Staff have undertaken safeguarding training to help them identify areas of possible abuse. They understand their responsibilities in keeping children safe and reporting accidents and incidents to parents. Contact numbers are available for staff to make referrals or to seek advice and support.

Mandatory training is completed by staff prior to the holiday club opening for the summer.
