What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children support their younger friends when they play together in the outdoor space.

All children are kind and caring towards each other. They build meaningful relationships. Staff use an effective system to reward positive behaviour.

Children keenly ask how they can achieve extra points to become the club 'king' or 'queen'. They have great fun as they think up forfeits that they can give to the coaches to do. Children explore their environment with confidence.

They enjoy sensory activities as they use their hands to squeeze and explore materials, such as slime. Staff use lots of enthusiasm to get children excited... to join in with activities. Children are curious learners.

For example, they watch in awe at the changes that take place as they mix different materials, such as cornflour and water, together.Children benefit from lots of opportunities to be creative. They eagerly search for conkers, leaves and twigs among the trees and bushes.

They enthusiastically use the natural objects to make a 'pumpkin face'. Children tell the inspector about their creations, explaining that they have used twigs for the 'scary eyebrows' and stones for the nose. They show great pride in their creations as they describe how they have made a mouth with teeth in the soil with sticks.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff support children to understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Children all wash their hands as they arrive at the club and before snack times. Staff encourage parents to supply their children with healthy food and they encourage children to eat their healthy food before having their treats.

Children also have access to a large outside play area, where they can run and play with balls. Children learn the importance of being healthy and active.Staff establish very close bonds with children from the start.

Children in the early years are assigned key persons to support their well-being and development. Staff have a deep knowledge of the children in their care. They plan each session based on the children who are due to attend.

For example, children delight when staff announce who has been awarded points for positive behaviour, sharing and being helpful.Staff plan activities that are based on the interests of the children who attend that day. For example, children enjoy exploring their creative skills by making their own slime.

They mix various food colourings to create their desired colours. Although children mix some ingredients themselves, the manager agrees that staff could be encouraged to allow children do more things independently. The nominated individual provides good leadership.

Staff report that their well- being is good, and they receive effective termly supervisions. As a result, they access additional training courses to increase their knowledge and skills. Staff receive a thorough induction process.

This helps to prepare them for their roles and gives them an understanding of health and safety requirements. The nominated individual, manager and staff evaluate the provision by seeking the views of parents and children. Changes are then made to meet the needs of the children and families even better.

Staff carefully consider how to help the youngest children to feel secure. They use group times to encourage older children to share the rules. Older children eagerly think of rules and talk about these with the younger children who are new to the setting.

This gives children a sense of belonging and positively promotes their well-being.Staff deploy themselves well and provide good levels of supervision to help keep children safe. They carefully monitor the numbers of children throughout the session as children move between the indoor and outdoor environments.

Risk assessments are completed daily before the children arrive to ensure the environment is safe.Staff seize every opportunity to interact with children, promoting their communication, language and thinking skills very well. Children confidently tell the staff what games they would like to play next, and they democratically make a vote to choose from different physical games.

Children are inspired by the imaginative staff. For example, they adapt a hand ball game to play 'quidditch' using hockey sticks as broomsticks.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

The club is safe and secure. Staff recognise a wide range of different types of abuse, such as female genital mutilation and county lines, and understand the 'Prevent' duty. Staff know well the action they would take to keep children safe from harm, such as making referrals to external professionals.

Recruitment and other procedures are in place to enable leaders to check that staff are and remain suitable to work with children. Staff recognise the action they should take if they are concerned about someone in a position of trust. This includes contacting the local authority designated officer and Ofsted.
