What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children are happy to come to this friendly and welcoming club.

Staff get to know children well and have formed close and trusting bonds. The staff team are well organised and have a clear structure and routine when the children arrive after school. Children behave well and follow instructions as they get settled into activities.

They enjoy the activities available and demonstrate good levels of focus and concentration. Staff have high expectations of children's behaviour and explain the rules and boundaries clearly. Staff model positive language and reinforce positive behaviour with praise.

They talk to the child...ren really well about why they need to be kind to their friends and the importance of not sharing their foods at snack time.Staff carefully plan a variety of activities to ensure children develop a range of physical skills. They plan with the children's interests in mind and promote children's social skills through plenty of team building and cooperation games.

Children speak highly of learning new skills and say they enjoy playing football and dodgeball the most.Children feel confident and safe with the coaches. They are able to ask for help and make choices.

They can read books and sit comfortably if they are tired, have their snack when they are ready and they go to staff for reassurance if they are feeling unsettled.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The club has a strong ethos that encourages positive behaviour. Children are able to collect rewards and earn a 'star of the day' award for showing good teamwork, kindness and resilience.

They are rewarded with fun activities and tournaments when they have had a good week.Children's emotional well-being is fostered and the coach has good knowledge of how to support them with self-regulation techniques, including breathing strategies and expressing feelings. This helps to resolve any conflicts quickly and helps children settle with ease.

Staff promote children's awareness of a healthy lifestyle. They request that children wash their hands before collecting snack and support them to make healthy dietary choices. They talk about the importance of physical activity, being outside and keeping their bodies moving.

Children listen to instructions and are motivated to join in with the activities. They benefit from a variety of board games that require turn taking and cooperation. Adults are excellent role models and support children's learning and fine motor skill development.

They provide a range of craft activities, which children concentrate at for long periods of time. Children work together well. For example, the older children teach the younger children to play chess, naming the pieces and setting up the board.

Coaches have excellent professional development opportunities and benefit from a good support system from leaders and managers. They have regular training to update their knowledge and skills, particularly around safeguarding procedures. They demonstrate confidence with how to keep children safe and their duties and responsibilities with assessing risk.

Staff work in close partnership with parents and ensure they have all the information they need.Children demonstrate good levels of independence. They choose their activities, meet their personal care needs and collect their own belongings at the end of the session.

Children are encouraged to pick up their own litter and tidy up their space when an activity is finished.Leaders and managers monitor their clubs closely to ensure standards are high. They have weekly check-ins with coaches and ensure quality face-to-face supervision meetings identify any areas of improvement.

Coaches have opportunities to share ideas and best practice across the clubs and an apprentice scheme ensures coaches are well trained before they start.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.There is an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first.
