What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children who attend the club demonstrate that they are happy and look forward to attending. Children of all ages develop good social skills and form strong friendships.

Staff know children's individual needs exceptionally well and plan activities that link to their interests and abilities. This is because they obtain a wealth of information from parents to enable them to provide good care for each child. This includes supporting children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

Consequently, new children settle in quickly and form good attachments with staff. This also helps to support children's confiden...ce and emotional well-being. Younger children enthusiastically join in with activities which develop their imaginations.

For example, they create pictures and models with a range of materials, such as feathers, sequins and pipe cleaners. Children make up their own games and ideas. They have fun with their friends as they decide what to create next.

Staff are kind, caring and fair and children behave well. Children are well mannered and polite. Older children show care towards the younger children, many of whom are siblings.

Before the start of the session, staff remind children about the established rules. This promotes consistency and supports children to learn right from wrong. As a result, children are quick to help to tidy up, line up and offer help to carry sports equipment to the playing field.

Children of all ages learn to share resources and play cooperatively.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Children are very active as staff make good use of the sports grounds throughout the day. This means that children have lots of opportunities for fresh air and to engage in physical play.

Children use a wide range of resources, such as hoops, footballs, dance ribbons, bats and balls.Relationships with parents are well developed. Parents have nothing but praise for the staff and manager and the activities and care which they provide for their children.

For instance, some parents are willing to travel from a distance, so that their children can attend the club. Staff and parents regularly share significant information about children's individual interests and this means that everyone is well informed.Staff listen well to children's ideas and encourage them to negotiate and work in teams.

They make good use of meaningful questioning to extend children's thoughts and ideas. As a result, children communicate effectively and have the confidence to turn to staff when they need help or support. Children have access to books, writing and drawing materials.

This further supports children's communication, language and literacy skills.Children use mathematical language in their play to describe the size and position of objects as they play with small-world resources and construct towers with wooden blocks. On the sports field, children thoroughly enjoy playing tag rugby with sticky belts.

They eagerly attempt to work out with their friends how many points their team has won.Children have a good understanding of healthy eating and are offered a range of nutritious snacks and meals. However, some children bring their own packed lunches.

Their food contains high levels of sugar content. The manager and staff are aware of this. They are working with parents to provide them with information and ideas for alternative healthy options.

Staff support and develop children's interests and awareness of the wider world. They do this through well-planned activities, outings and effective use of resources that promote inclusion and diversity. For example, children participate in learning about different dances from around the world, such as salsa, street and Irish dance.

The manager has efficient recruitment processes to ensure that adults working with children are well supervised and suitable to be around young children. Staff attend regular training to reinforce their knowledge. For instance, most of the staff are trained to support children with SEND.

The manager and staff reflect on their practice and include the views of children and parents. They have made several changes as a result. For example, the club now offers children hot lunches, and the manager is in negotiations with the sports club to use the artificial turf area.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff promote children's safety effectively. They complete regular risk assessments to ensure that risks are minimised in all areas.

This includes when children play outside on the sports field and on outings. The manager and staff have a secure understanding of safeguarding and child protection. Staff are clear about their responsibilities to protect children from any forms of abuse.

They understand how to refer any issues they may have with the behaviour of adults towards children, in order to promote children's well-being and safety. Staff have attended safeguarding training and they all have a first-aid qualification. This means that children are well cared for and are kept safe from harm.
