Brynteg Comprehensive School is an English-medium 11 to 18 mixed comprehensive school and is maintained by Bridgend local authority. Currently there are 1,584 pupils which is lower than at the time of the last inspection when there were 1,960. The number in the sixth form has risen very slightly to 422.

The school serves Bridgend and a catchment area mainly from the eastern side of the town. Around 14% of pupils are eligible for free school meals, which is lower than the national average of 17.1%.

Just less than 18% of pupils live in the 20% most deprived areas in Wales. Most pupils come from a white, British heritage and very few pupils from an ethnic minority background. Very few pupils have a statement of special educat...ional needs compared with the national average of 2.
