This is a good school The headteacher provides strong leadership for the school.

She has identified that the school's performance has declined and taken effective action to address this. The headteacher has a clear vision for the school. The governing body and the staff share that vision and are wholly supportive of her.

Leaders place a high priority on staff development. As a result, the quality of teaching and learning has improved and is typically good. Provision in the early years is good.

The early years leader supports her team to ensure that that children do well. As a result, standards have risen and are in line with the national average. Phon...ics is taught effectively.

This provides pupils with a good base on which to build their wider reading skills. Pupils read with enjoyment and confidence. The curriculum provides well for pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Pupils behave well and show respect for each other and for their teachers. Pupils are safe and well cared for. The school has a nurturing environment and parents are overwhelmingly supportive.

Pupils enjoy school. Teachers frequently plan interesting lessons that motivate and enthuse pupils to learn. Leaders enrich the curriculum with exciting theme days and school trips.

In a few subjects, assessment systems are not developed well enough. Where this is the case, pupils make less progress than, for example, in English and mathematics. Pupils lack sufficient opportunities to apply and develop their mathematical skills in other subjects.

Teachers do not always make effective use of time in lessons to maximise pupils' learning. Sometimes, this slows the rates of progress that pupils make. The level of challenge is not always well matched to pupils' needs.
