What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children clearly feel safe and secure at this exciting holiday club.

They build positive and respectful relationships with leaders and staff who care for them. Children discuss their plans for the rest of the school holidays as they paint union jack flags to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. They laugh with each other as they explore the different effects they can create with paint.

For example, flicking it to create red, white and blue speckles. Children behave exceptionally well. They listen and respond to staff's clear expectations.

Children understand that rules are in place to keep them safe. For instan...ce, children tell the rest of the group that they must wait in line and take turns to run and jump onto the box, so they do not bump into anyone. They respond well to praise and persevere as they negotiate challenging apparatus.

Children concentrate and work out the best way to balance and climb to reach the top.Children's well-being is effectively supported. They make independent choices about the activities they want to take part in.

Children have access to a familiar club coach should they require additional help. They learn the importance of self-care practices and routinely wash their hands before mealtimes. Children develop a good awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyles and remember that they need to eat the healthy snack from their lunch box first before choosing something else.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Information is presented clearly to children and continuously reinforced throughout the day. This helps those children who may be new to the club to become familiar with routines and expectations. For example, each morning, children and staff come together to discuss the club rules, complete a fire drill and make activity choices for the day.

Leaders build successful partnerships with the host school and other local schools that children attend. They seek information from them about children's individual needs and ensure these are met. This helps to promote consistency for those children who do not deal as well with change.

Children have numerous opportunities during the day for fresh air and exercise. They thoroughly enjoy running around outside with their friends. Children display strength and determination as they coordinate their body and climb and swing across metal bars.

Staff successfully support children's social skills and confidence. They are wonderful role models. Staff sit alongside children and engage in conversations which supports children to feel listened to and valued.

For instance, when children are building a tower with small bricks, staff suggest that they work together to create a stronger and wider base so they can build a tower as tall as they would like.Children understand that rules are in place to keep them safe. Although they are allowed to bring electronics into the holiday club, their use is monitored closely by staff and is only allowed to be used for short intervals, such as 10-15 minutes at snack time.

Children learn about the safe use of technology and explain to visitors that 'gadgets or electronics must not have internet or have the camera on because it is not safe'.Leaders place a strong focus on the well-being of their staff. They get to know their staff team well and invite them to regular meetings to gather their views and share information.

Leaders have recently implemented an online training platform to further support staff's professional development. Staff say that they feel exceptionally well supported in their role and feel valued by leaders and senior staff.Parents are thoroughly impressed with the holiday club.

They share their views with leaders through regular surveys and send in testimonial comments by email. Parents comment on the 'five star' service provided and feel thoroughly informed on what activities their children have enjoyed throughout the day. They comment on the 'welcoming and polite staff' and state that their children 'cannot wait to return'!

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

The premises are safe and secure and staff are well deployed to ensure children are closely supervised. Staff have a secure understanding of the signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk from harm. They attend regular safeguarding training and demonstrate an awareness of the procedures to follow should they need to report a concern about a child or fellow member of staff.

Staff know where to seek further advice and guidance; whether this is from leaders within the organisation or from external professionals. Rigorous recruitment procedures are in place. Leaders attend safer recruitment training and put in place suitable vetting arrangements to ensure that those working with children are suitable for their role.
