They consider their needs at the end of the school day, providing a wide range of interesting activities, which children thoroughly enjoy. Children spend time chatting to their friends while playing. They have access to the outside space when they need to be more active.
Staff plan activities which are based on children's interests. Staff regularly find out what new activities they would like them to provide. Staff support children's play well.
They sit with children, talking about what they are doing and give ...them ideas and additional resources to extend their skills and thinking.Overall, children's behaviour is good. Children clearly understand staff's expectations and routines.
They arrive in an orderly fashion. Children put their belongings in a safe place, sanitise their hands and immediately get involved in an activity. Staff give clear instructions, which children follow well.
Children are confident and very secure. They engage staff in conversations about their day at school and share jokes with them. Younger children play with their older friends, who show real kindness and consideration for them by adapting their play to meet their age-related needs
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
The manager is experienced and very hard working.
She constantly reviews the provision with parents, staff, children and managers from the school. The manager attends local authority forums to further evaluate the setting and share ideas.All staff know how to support children effectively.
They are kind and caring and build a good rapport with every child. Staff supervise children well and take account of ratios to make sure that children are kept safe at all times.The manager provides relevant training to improve and update staff's knowledge and skills.
This includes regular safeguarding and health and safety training. The manager takes account of staff's well-being, providing support and advice when required.Staff plan sessions well.
There is a good balance of time, both inside and outside, for children. However, some transitions between activities are too long and children spend time waiting with nothing to do. This can have a negative impact on some children's behaviour.
Staff choose activities carefully so that all of the children can access them. For example, they make sure that construction equipment ranges from small pieces to large wooden blocks. This allows children to choose what they feel comfortable playing with, but also extends their skills when they decide to choose equipment they would not normally play with.
Children's physical skills and good health are well supported, such as during outside activities. Children play football in mixed-age groups. They work together as a team, making sure that everyone follows the rules.
In another part of the playground, children play with a parachute. They use their large motor skills to move the parachute up and down, taking turns to run underneath and raising their heart rates as they do so.Children's personal and social skills are good.
They enjoy playing together and are always kind and respectful towards each other. For example, when children play with the construction toys, they decide to build a house together. They negotiate which part of the house each of them will build.
Children help each other find particular pieces from a box and give each other ideas about how to progress their individual sections.Children talk about how much they enjoy attending the setting. They particularly enjoy the creative activities and the time that they spend outside playing games.
Children also like the fact that they make friendships with children who are not in their class at school.Staff have a good relationship with the school. The manager regularly meets with key staff in school to discuss the setting and children who attend.
Staff talk to teachers at pick-up times to make sure that any important information is shared. This allows them to tailor their support.Parents speak highly of the staff and appreciate the care and attention which their children receive.
They say their children really enjoy attending and often do not want to go home as they are having so much fun.
