What is it like to attend this early years setting?
The provision is outstanding
Children show great enthusiasm on arrival at nursery.
They separate well from their parents and are eager to join in with the range of exciting experiences on offer. Children share very warm relationships with the staff, who actively engage with them as joyful play partners. Children develop excellent self-help and independence skills as a result of consistent and thoughtful role modelling from staff.
Throughout the day, children have the opportunity to chop their own fruit, put on and take off their puddle suits and wellington boots, and pre-school children serve their own lunch.Children's physical development ...and good health are extremely well supported. They can choose to spend much of their day outside, where a range of exciting equipment provides them with extensive play experiences across all seven areas of learning.
Staff plan and implement an ambitious and purposeful curriculum that celebrates children's individual characteristics. Staff are highly skilled in supporting children's learning and there is an inclusive culture embedded across the provision.Children's behaviour is exemplary.
They learn to identify and talk about their different emotions and children demonstrate high levels of focus and engagement. For example, pre-school children are highly involved in making and laying tarmac in the digging area and babies display focus and concentration using glue sticks to spread glue and stick paper.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Staff consistently model careful and thoughtful interaction, listening intently to children's communication and joining in to add value to their play.
For example, staff repeat comments back to children and encourage them to think about what they can do next to sustain their interest in a particular activity. Children are actively encouraged to seek and choose resources to further extend their play.Small-muscle skills are superbly promoted.
For example, there are many opportunities for children to mark make across the indoor and outdoor provision. Babies show great interest in chalks and older children develop their large-muscle skills by mark making on the wall with large rollers and water. Staff never miss an opportunity to extend children's vocabulary; sign language is used alongside speech to support children's communication.
Children develop exceptional self-help skills. Toddlers chop their own fruit at morning and afternoon snack time and pre-school children serve their own meals. Children skilfully use a range of kitchen utensils to carry out these tasks.
Children show great interest in their food. They grow vegetables in the garden that are used in their meals. They also have a superb relationship with the cook, who promotes healthy eating and shares recipes with parents.
Outdoor provision offers an ambitious and innovative curriculum. A newly built outdoor classroom further extends imaginary play for children of all ages. Children choose to spend much of their day outside and they share the space respectfully.
Older children are aware of the needs of babies and treat them with care and attention and babies delight in watching older children move around them.Mathematical learning is embedded successfully across the setting. Children play enthusiastically across two water trays with guttering to create moving water.
Children use a whole variety of containers to move, scoop and catch the water. They play cooperatively, pushing water up and down hill to each other saying, 'here you are neighbour, I'm sending you water'.The curriculum for babies is nurturing and celebrates individuality.
Staff provide babies with a healthy mix of emotional support, secure attachments and great enjoyment. The learning environment is calm and restful and offers freedom for babies to make choices in their play. Staff develop excellent relationships with families and build on children's motivations and passions.
Inspirational leaders support a skilled staff team in striving for excellence. The nursery's involvement in two early years development and research programmes is an example of their commitment to reflective and considered practice.Parents are delighted and exceptionally happy with the service their children receive and the progress they make.
They comment on the fantastic staff team and their involvement in community events. Parents state that staff treat the whole family with respect and they nurture everyone, not just the children.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
Staff have high levels of knowledge and understanding of their role in protecting children from harm. Effective policies and procedures underpin highly effective and responsive practice. Staff attend regular training across a wide range of safeguarding issues.
They are clear about action to be taken if they are concerned about a child and maintain a highly professional and confidential approach. There is an effective safeguarding culture across the setting and leaders have developed close links with a local children's centre to support families in need. The team are extremely committed to the protection and safety of children, and staff members work flexibly to meet the needs of families in order to improve outcomes for children.
