What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Staff welcome children warmly on collection from the on-site school, or as they arrive. They support younger children with their transitions, who quickly settle with their key person. Staff encourage children to independently hang up their coats and bags, and choose what they would like to play with.

Younger children self-serve their snacks, choosing fruit and vegetables from a selection on the table. They take pride in helping to clear the plates away when they have finished. Older children like to help with the washing up, supporting staff with cleaning and clearing up.

Staff place a high emphasis on children's behaviour.... They encourage children to work collaboratively together towards shared goals. Staff support children to work together, for example, to build a tower with large construction blocks.

Children remember the rules to keep them safe, such as to not build the tower too high, in case it falls and hurts someone. Staff model positive interactions with all children and children take this on board in their interactions with each other. Children are respectful and polite in their conversations.

They listen to the opinions and suggestions of others.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff take into consideration children's opinions and ideas when planning activities. They provide opportunities for children to develop their interests and explore their favourite things, such as baking, building with blocks and being creative.

This ensures that children are engaged in activities.Providers implement and follow effective boundaries and routines which help children to know what is expected of them and what is happening next. Children know the expectations for their behaviour in the setting, such as talking nicely to each other and being respectful.

They share and take turns, with older children modelling behaviour to the younger children. As such, all children behave well. The providers plan a variety of activities to extend what children have been learning at school, particularly in relation to events and festivals.

They focus on a broad calendar of events, while also exploring specific cultural events that children celebrate. This helps to broaden children's knowledge of the world around them and different cultures and celebrations.Effective partnerships are in place with the on-site school and other local provision.

Staff place an emphasis on supporting children's transitions and sharing information. The providers and staff manage this well to ensure that messages are passed easily between all settings children attend. This is especially evident when children require additional help.

As a result, there is a coordinated approach to supporting all children.Parents and carers report that staff are caring and nurturing towards children. They feel that staff keep their children safe while in club.

Parents comment their children are settled and engaged in a variety of activities. They also feel that staff are very approachable and provide a high level of information and support to their families. This ensures continuity of support and a well-coordinated sharing of information.

The providers carry out regular supervision sessions and appraisals with staff. Staff access mandatory training, such as safeguarding and first aid, but also additional training to help support the children in attendance. This helps to ensure that all staff are suitable and provide a high-quality service for children.

Staff are clear on the signs and symptoms of abuse and who to report concerns to. All staff undergo regular training to keep their knowledge up to date. They complete risk assessments before children come into the setting, and constantly carry them out as incidents, such as spillages, occur.
