What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children demonstrate good attitudes. They say please and thank you to each other and staff.
During registration, they answer politely when their names are called. Staff are positive role models. They join in children's play and engage in activities and discussions.
Staff praise children for listening and helping to tidy and clean up. Children enjoy playing outside in the fresh air, where they take part in lots of physical play. They play football and cheer on their friends when they score a goal.
They concentrate as they aim the ball at the basketball net. They move further back to make throwing the ball into the ...net more challenging. Children confidently take risks in their play as they climb the frame, jump off it and land safely onto the floor.
Children settle quickly and they are familiar with routines and staff. Staff promote children's independence and encourage them to take responsibility for small tasks. For example, children are responsible for giving out the cups and pouring the drinks.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Children enjoy lots of stimulating activities that challenge them to think and work through the process to achieve their desired result. For example, children make their own Chinese plates. They examine a decorated plate, skilfully copying the design.
Children choose what they would like to do. Some sit quietly and read, while others sit and talk to their friends. Staff are very mindful that they have been at school all day and allow children time to think and reflect.
Children are very happy and show they feel safe during their time at the club. They enjoy a range of interesting activities, such as table football, construction, arts and crafts and playing snap with cards. Children engage with each other, communicating and responding appropriately during play.
Children enjoy healthy choices for tea. They have a varied menu, which caters for their likes and dislikes. Staff and children consistently follow good hygiene practices, such as handwashing when coming in from outside, after using the toilet and before and after eating.
Staff sensitively support children's emotional development and encourage them to talk about how they feel and work through solutions together. They use their understanding of children's needs to offer appropriate support. This contributes to children's sense of security.
Staff are caring and kind. They manage children's behaviours well. They communicate with children respectfully and sensitively.
They give children responsibilities and make them feel valued.Children have opportunities to be creative and express themselves. For example, children create their own dance and demonstrate it to staff and visitors.
Staff are very complimentary and praise their achievements, acknowledging how much skill and effort the children have shown.Staff say they are well supported by the manager and feel valued. Robust recruitment and induction help to ensure that staff are suitable to work with children.
Continuous monitoring by the manager ensures they understand their role and responsibilities. The manager and her team evaluate their practice to promote continuous improvement. They reflect on the provision they offer to ensure it meets the needs of the children.
Staff discuss the club and activities on offer with children and take account of their views. For example, the children's forum meets to discuss and put forward their ideas and suggestions. Older children support younger children to settle and make friends.
Staff work in partnership with teachers in the host school and they share information about children's well-being. The staff know children exceptionally well as they also work in the school. Children are very complimentary of the staff.
For example, children state that when they have had a hard day at school the staff at the club make them feel better.Partnerships with parents are strong. Staff obtain clear handovers from teachers at the school, so that they can pass on key messages to parents.
Parents state how happy they are with the staff and that they are kind and caring. They appreciate the activities on offer and feel that their children are safe and secure.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
Staff have a strong understanding of their responsibilities to safeguard children. They complete regular training to ensure that their knowledge is up to date. Staff are able to recognise the possible signs of abuse and neglect.
They are aware of wider safeguarding issues, such as the risk of exposure to extreme views and behaviour. The club has policies in place to follow should they need to raise concerns regarding children's welfare to other agencies. The manager has a central system in place to record when staff have updated their knowledge of any changes in safeguarding policy or the procedures.
