What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children are very happy in the setting. Children who attend on other evenings greet staff with enthusiasm as they pass them in the school yard. Younger children run out and cuddle staff when they collect them in the yard.

Some children are keen to stay longer on an evening when their parents arrive to collect them. Older children comment that they love attending the setting. They explain they play and staff care.

Managers and staff think carefully about how they can keep children safe. For example, they lock doors into the yard, so children cannot leave unattended. Staff supervise children well when they go to the toilet o...r wash their hands.

Younger children know that they must wait with the staff in the school yard until all children are collected.Staff have high expectations for children's behaviour. Children behave well.

They know the rules and expectations. Children demonstrate this as they walk from school to the room used by the setting. They walk sensibly with a partner and follow the leader's instructions, such as walking on the pavement, avoiding the mud.

Children know the routines. For example, they come into the room and wash their hands ready for snack. They clear up after their snack.

Children tidy up the things they have been playing with. This helps to maintain a calm and orderly environment.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff plan a variety of activities to support children's interests.

For example, they have construction evenings to support children's interests in this area. Staff know children well and find out what they are interested in. The play care room is set up to support children's interests.

During the inspection, children thoroughly enjoy making and delivering 'takeaway' food in the home corner and looking after their baby dolls.Staff provide a range of opportunities for children to talk about their day. As children complete a craft activity, they talk about what they have been doing.

They talk about what they have eaten for lunch. However, sometimes, when older and more confident children are keen to talk about their day, younger children sometimes have fewer opportunities to talk. This is because staff do not consistently remind older children to give younger children a chance to talk.

Children learn how they can keep themselves healthy. They know that they need to wash their hands before eating. Staff help younger children to manage their personal hygiene, such as washing hands after using the toilet.

Children enjoy fresh air and exercise, particularly during the lighter nights. They love to use the school yard and adventure play equipment.Children develop very good relationships with each other.

Older children are keen to look after younger children and greet them when they come into the room. They play alongside them as they play in the play kitchen or with board games.Children are engaged and motivated.

Older children enjoy playing games together. Younger children enjoy playing snakes and ladders with staff. They take turns and concentrate well until they finish the game.

They focus intently as they draw flowers or patterns during the craft activity.Staff have a good attitude to keeping their knowledge and skills up to date. They attend mandatory training and are currently exploring different ways of accessing further training, so they can continue to keep their knowledge and skills up to date.

Staff work well with the on-site school staff. They talk together about what children enjoy doing. Staff plan additional activities to extend children's interests further.

However, staff do not consistently explore ways that they can share information with other professionals who may be involved in children's care, to ensure a consistent approach to supporting children.Staff talk to children about how they can keep themselves safe online. Older children know that they must keep any passwords for devices secure.
