What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children love attending this welcoming club. They arrive with big smiles and are happy to see their friends and staff. Children are bursting with pride to share why they have received their headteacher awards with staff and visitors.

This demonstrates that children feel safe and secure. Children follow the club's rules and routines. For example, they know to hang their personal belongings and bags on the designated pegs.

Staff create a stimulating environment, with a focus on providing activities that consistently meet children's interests. Children enjoy the freedom to choose whether they want to engage in either high ene...rgy team games or less active activities. They spend sustained periods of time colouring in their favourite pictures and pretending to make meals for their friends in the role play area.

Staff have high expectations for children's behaviour and conduct. Children show that they are fully aware of the club's simple six rules and values. They show high levels of respect for others and know to patiently wait their turn to use resources.

Children are curious and inquisitive. They enjoy testing out their ideas through science experiments. Children create clouds by squirting shaving foam on top of water in their clear plastic cup.

They carefully use pipettes to place droplets of different coloured food colouring onto the foam. Children are fascinated by the different shades of new colours they create as the colouring mixes together. They work out that if they saturate most of the foam with food colouring, it begins to drip through the foam, and into the water, replicating rain drops.

Staff skilfully use this opportunity to talk to children about precipitation.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff deploy themselves well to enhance children's experiences at the club. They use walkie-talkies to communicate with each other, such as when children move between the school hall and club room.

This ensures that staff know exactly where children are at all times. The provider makes sure that all the mandatory records are in place and this helps to ensure the club runs efficiently. Although children's attendance at the club is recorded on an electronic system, this does not include all the information needed to ensure the record is clear.

Children are polite and use good manners when speaking to staff and each other. Staff model the behaviour they expect from the children. This results in a calm environment where children show a strong sense of belonging.

They eagerly work together to tidy away what they have finished playing and proudly talk about their artwork, which is beautifully displayed.Children learn about healthy lifestyles through physical exercise, rest and hydration. They enjoy a wide variety of team games and physical play.

Children learn how to assess risks as they carefully climb on and off raised platforms and safely carry safety mats back to where they belong. Staff interactions motivate children to try new foods. Children know to follow a good hygiene routine such as washing their hands.

Mealtimes are a relaxed and social experience. Staff sit with children and show a genuine interest in what they say as they talk about their day at school and what they have enjoyed at the club.Children develop good relationships with staff who know them well.

This is because staff invest time in gathering a wealth of information about children's interests and needs prior to them attending. This helps them to provide rich experiences and meet the care needs of children.Children have fun at the club.

They are confident to quickly build new friendships. Older children are positive role models for younger children. They warmly invite them to join in with their play and read them their favourite stories in the sanctuary of the comfortable tepee.

The provider and staff work in close partnership with the host school and children's teachers. They obtain essential information to effectively support children's continuity of care. Parents are highly complimentary about the club.

They appreciate the regular updates about activities and comment how their children speak positively about attending the club. Parents describe the staff team as 'fantastic.' The staff team complete mandatory training and the provider regularly shares ideas, such as new activities and strategies to support positive behaviour.

At times, the provider does not sufficiently focus on staff's professional development to enrich the good practice even further.
