This provision meets requirements Children are excited to attend the holiday camp and develop good relationships with staff and other children.
They are keen to participate in a fun range of activities, where they can explore and learn new skills. Staff engage positively with children and support them to be fully involved in the activity programme.Younger children settle well, as staff are sensitive to their needs and give them time to adapt.
They are inquisitive as they explore the wonderful outdoor play area. They develop good coordination as they balance walking along tree trunks. They learn about a variety of interesting topics, such as 'People who hel...p us'.
They use role play to act out being superheroes and giggle and laugh with their friends as they run around.Older children build friendships and enjoy playing team games. The facilities available provide ample opportunities for children to be physically active, both indoors and outdoors.
Team games are popular, such as football and dodgeball. Staff support children to understand the rules of the game and children are quick to learn. They navigate space well and show good coordination.
Children's behaviour is good. They are kind and considerate to each other and cheer each other on during team games. Staff support children to manage any negative behaviour and to think about the impact of their behaviour on others.
Children are able to adapt their behaviour accordingly. They learn to share and wait for their turn. Staff use positive language to re-enforce key messages, such as 'good listening'.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
The manager values her staff team and is a good role model. Careful consideration is given to effective management and organisation of the vast site. The deployment of staff ensures that new staff are teamed with more experienced staff, so that skills can be shared.
The manager is reflective and evaluative. Following some recent incidents, the manager has reviewed procedures and provided additional guidance to staff. Further training on effective supervision and safe management of medication supports children's safety.
The manager considers how the setting can be developed in the future. She intends to provide more opportunities for children to share their ideas to support the activity planning.The staff are friendly and enthusiastic.
They engage well with children to create a fun environment. Children say they enjoy attending the camp. They like the staff and particularly like the sports activities and craft.
Children say they have made friends at the camp and they would like to come back again.Children learn about healthy lifestyles. They have many opportunities to be outdoors and enjoy physical activities.
They know to keep themselves well hydrated with water, particularly during warm weather and after exercise. Staff support children to make healthy choices, such as choosing something nutritious, like fruit, at snack time.Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are supported well.
Arrangements are made to share appropriate information with parents to ensure staff are able to meet children's needs. Staff are patient and sensitive towards children. They ensure children have easy access to their belongings, such as sensory items to support children's emotional well-being.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff have a secure understanding of procedures they should follow to ensure children are safeguarded. They know possible signs when a child may be at risk.
They understand who to report their concerns to and the role of lead agencies. Leaders and managers test out staff's understanding of safeguarding during spot quizzes. Staff are mindful of children's safety as they move around the premises, including completing regular head counts.
Children also learn to keep themselves safe. For example, the early years children learn about road safety when using the zebra crossing. They know to stop and wait and listen out for traffic before safely crossing with staff.
