What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The management team have a clear ethos and vision for the camp.

They want children to have fun while experiencing new opportunities. They provide a vast range of activities for children to try and provide a welcoming environment with a range of resources that are engaging and interesting to young children.Staff work hard to develop good, working relationships with parents.

They share information before children begin to inform parents of the opportunities and routines at the camp. Parents are also asked to share ample information regarding children's needs. Where children have identified additional needs, staff ensure they are well informed and have a good understanding of how to support children and administer medication, where needed.

This provides a safe environment for children. At the beginning of each week, staff take time to get to know the children in their group. Children share their likes and dislikes and begin to build relationships with the staff around them, helping them to settle into camp well.

Staff work with children to implement a list of rules and expectations. They provide opportunities for children to make suggestions and share their ideas. Together, they display their list and reflect on these during the week to help manage children's behaviours.

Staff teach children how to keep themselves and others safe. Before activities begin, children and staff discuss the risks involved and what they can do to prevent themselves getting hurt. Children demonstrate excellent knowledge of safety during discussions and are confident to share their ideas with the group.

Staff understand the importance of reading. The 'base' room for the youngest children, offers a wide range of resources, including a variety of books. Children enjoy choosing books and listening to staff read.

Staff ask questions and talk about the story to keep them engaged and children concentrate thoroughly on the task in hand. Staff monitor children's engagement closely and recognise when they may need support and reassurance. Staff are positive and enthusiastic, and this encourages children to join in and develop the confidence to have a go during all types of activities.

Each week, children receive a certificate of achievement that staff carefully choose, according to children's strengths and development. Staff enthusiastically announce each child's award, offering praise and excitement. Children are proud of their success and quickly share their award with others around them, supporting their confidence and high levels of self-esteem.

The management team are reflective and confidently identify areas of improvement. They have recently reviewed the support in place for staff and looked at how they can improve staff well-being. The changes made have had a positive impact on staff.

Therefore, staff enjoy their role at the camp and provide a high level of care for children.
