What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children are happy to arrive at this friendly after-school club.

They receive a warm welcome from staff who ensure they use children's names as they say hello. This helps children to develop a sense of connection and belonging. Children are excited to see which adult supported experience is on offer each day.

They are eager to join in with a planned experiment, mixing baking soda and vinegar with food colouring. Children are particularly vocal about the smell of vinegar. Staff share scientific language and concepts with the children as they engage in mixing the ingredients.

Children work collaboratively with their... peers and delight when the ingredients they have mixed create a frothing result. Children demonstrate excellent listening and attention skills as staff take the register. They know that this helps to keep them safe, as staff know exactly which children are in attendance.

Children make choices in their play. They move freely about the large space to see what is on offer before settling down to an activity. Children demonstrate excellent focus as they play collaboratively with their peers at their chosen play opportunities.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff get to know children well as they spend time playing alongside them. They observe the activities that children are interested and engaged in. They use this information to set up the experiences each day.

For example, children enjoy construction, so staff provide modelling materials to help extend their design and technology skills. Children work together to construct a range of models. Staff ensure that these can be stored safely for children to add to the following day.

Children are clear about the expectations of them. Staff consistently and respectfully support children to make the right choices. As a result of this, children understand right from wrong.

They share their experience with visitors and explain that the rules are in place to keep everybody safe.Staff support children consistently to carry out tasks for themselves. They encourage children to get involved with the jobs that need doing in the club.

For example, some children help to lay the table in readiness for tea time. Others then take responsibility for clearing away and washing up. Children demonstrate high levels of competence in these tasks.

Children play collaboratively and cooperatively. When older children engage in active games, staff help them to modify their play to keep everyone safe. Children are enthusiastic as they play together.

They know what happens when and respond positively as staff ask them to wash their hands and get ready for tea. Staff initiate a guessing game as children sit at the tables and wait for their food. However, on occasions, children wait a long time for their food to be ready.

This leads to some children losing interest in the guessing game and becoming restless.Staff are good role models for cooperative play. This helps younger children play well together.

They become involved in joining all pieces of hexagonal construction materials together to create a tall structure. They work together to measure this structure against members of staff. Staff encourage children to estimate how many more pieces they need to make their model as tall as staff members.

Staff praise children's achievements. They notice and comment positively when children are highly engaged in play. For example, staff feedback to children who are drawing and colouring.

They praise their use of colour and the detail they include in their pictures. This contributes to children feeling proud of their creations.Parents are pleased with the service on offer.
