What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Staff provide a friendly atmosphere for children to rest and play in after their day at school. All children demonstrate they feel happy to be there and eagerly share their day with the staff. They are aware of the routine and hang their coats and bags out on the rack before settling down to play.
Staff start the session with some physical activity and fresh air so the children can play outside and relax. Staff deploy themselves well and give children clear instructions on how to keep themselves safe as they go outside to the school playground. While children play, staff interact with them, sharing in their play.
For examp...le, some children decide that the climbing apparatus is a train. They sell tickets and get their friends and staff on board. Children share that the train trip is to Paris.
When asked if they are going to see the Eiffel Tower, they share that they are going to a popular amusement park to see walking butterflies and other popular characters.Children hear clear messages about what is expected of them and behave well. Staff plan a wide variety of activities over the term and consider the different ages and abilities of the children when providing these.
Staff know the children well and ensure that there is plenty of free choice within their play. Children can construct with bricks and shapes and do role play in the home corner, which changes during the year to other interests such as creating a vets. Children enjoy making spinning tops out of paper plates.
They share how they have drawn a football pitch, their favourite film character or just the bright colours to 'make it look pretty when it spins'.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Staff ensure that there is a welcoming club environment for the children. They make the room base inviting and ensure that children can enjoy a range of activities and healthy snacks.
Staff ensure that children have a say in what is available for them to use and also in their meals. Staff have built strong bonds with the children, who often invite them into their play. Children develop positive relationships with each other and the staff.
Staff encourage children to take responsibility for their surroundings and they willingly tidy up resources, such as before snacks or before going home. Children are polite and considerate towards others. They swiftly respond when staff ask them a question or remind them of places they cannot hide, such as under a half barrel outside or the tables inside.
Staff praise children for their efforts and are good role models to them.Staff support children to build on their understanding of a healthy lifestyle.Children receive encouragement to wash their hands after playing outside and before sitting for their snack.
Their water bottles are always to hand, and they sit to eat their food together as a social occasion. Staff stay near the tables and talk to the children. At times, some children struggle to sit as they eat and then wander off, but staff are good at encouraging them back again.
Children are able to access physical exercise and fresh air at each session. Outside, they exercise their muscles and build on their coordination as they kick balls, climb on the activity course and balance on barrels. Inside, children use pencils, paints and felt tips to colour with, and manipulate glue sticks to combine a paper acorn and its cup before decorating it.
Partnerships with parents are a strength. Parents are very positive about the club and what their children receive while they are there. They share how staff provide them with information about their children, the activities they have done and how they have been at club.
Staff gather information from the parents and the school to help support them to settle children and meet their needs.The leaders, manager and staff regularly communicate with each other to ensure that children's needs are met. They ensure that all children across the company clubs have similar opportunities.
Leaders and staff take the opportunity, such as during team meetings, to reflect on the operation of the club, sharing what is working well and what can be improved further. Staff take part in supervision sessions, training and staff meetings which enable them to build on their knowledge and skills. This helps them keep their knowledge, such as safeguarding, up to date and enables them to improve what they provide for the children at the club.
The leaders implement secure recruitment procedures to help ensure that staff are suitable to work with children. Staff receive support from leaders and other staff to complete their induction process and probationary period. Staff share that leaders support them, and they feel valued.
