What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children are happy and enjoy themselves at this arts and crafts holiday playscheme. Children take part in a range of high-quality activities that captivate their attention.

For instance, they delight in painting crown shaped coasters in anticipation of the Coronation and talk about the weight of crowns with the staff.Staff provide a calm, relaxed environment for the children. At the beginning of the day, the leader talks to children about the rules of kindness for the day.

Children play with friends and take turns with construction toys to build complex models together. Children have strong bonds with the staff and chat to... them about their home and school lives.Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are very well supported by highly skilled staff.

They quickly notice any changes in children's behaviour and take highly effective action to support them. For instance, staff help children sort the paint brushes into containers and the repetition provides a sense of order and calm. Children decide when they are ready to take part in craft activities and staff support them with these decisions.

Children enjoy drawing and decorating their handprints. Staff and children engage in thoughtful conversations about henna hand designs for special occasions and diversity in art. These discussions help prepare children to understand different cultures and life in modern Britain.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The leader has a strong ethos about respecting one another. Children display high levels of self-control and wait patiently for their turn. For instance, children wait for others to finish before they take a turn and explore the toy aeroplane.

Staff understand the importance of children having time to play inside and in the outside spaces. For example, children use chalk to draw flowers and bees on the path in the garden. They praise one another and say, 'Well done, I love your bumblebee.'

Children enjoy plenty of physical activity outside in the sunshine and run and play traditional games with the staff, such as granny's footsteps.Children have a healthy snack. Staff encourage children to eat their fruit and drink water at morning snack time.

Staff talk to children about the types of food they enjoy and discuss what makes a person healthy. Children start to learn about the importance of healthy eating and drinking water. These conversations are revisited at lunchtime as staff and children talk about their lunches.

Children display good hygiene skills. Staff encourage children to use the hand sanitiser before they touch the paint brushes. Children talk about why they use sanitiser and say, 'To keep everything clean' as they share the paint brushes.

Children wash their hands before and after they eat.Staff encourage children to explore their feelings and emotions. For instance, in the outside area staff talk about creating a hopscotch with feelings instead of numbers.

Children are keen to try this activity and talk about the types of faces they could draw on the hopscotch squares.Parents praise the staff team and say their children are keen to attend. They talk about being confident their children are safe and happy at the playscheme and this makes going to work easier.

Parents value the high-quality art their children bring home. They talk about their children discovering a love of arts and crafts from the leader and staff.The leader has a strong vision for the playscheme.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

The leader understands her safeguarding responsibilities. Staff attend ongoing safeguarding training. Staff talk about the signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk of abuse and their role to refer any concerns to the designated safeguarding lead (DSL).

The DSL talks about her safeguarding role to refer concerns to the local authority. The leader explains the emergency evacuation procedures at the beginning of each session to the children to ensure their safety. Staff undertake a visual inspection of the outside space and clear away any items that pose a risk to children and ensure the space is safe.
