What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children are happy and settled at the club. They are warmly welcomed by the staff who take time to talk to them about their day and what they would like to do in the club. Children show they feel safe as they put away their belongings, then help to set out activities for the staff for their friends to enjoy.
Staff have high expectations of children's behaviour, and reward children for their kindness and consideration. All children behave well and are kind and understanding to each other. For example, older children encourage, welcome and include new and younger children in the games they play.
Children are excited and eage...r to play in a small group. They have fun as they play games together, where they are heard giggling with anticipation as they watch to see if they can add more objects to the horse figure before it collapses. Children enjoy playing outside and take part in games that provide them with physical exercise and enjoyment.
For instance, they enjoy make believe games as they hop on the stepping stones to avoid the sea creatures in the 'water'. While others enjoy team games together with staff, such as cricket, catch and football. Games, such as these, support the children's coordination and moving skills securely.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
The management team have successfully addressed the last inspection actions well to ensure the safety and welfare of the children. For instance, they now have effective safer recruitment procedures in place to ensure that all staff working with the children are safe and suitable to do so.Staff comment that they are well supported and that they receive regular supervisions.
They explain that the management team are approachable and that they have regular discussions and reflection times to talk about the activities and children at the end of the day. All staff have good opportunities for ongoing training and professional development, which helps them to develop their quality of practice.Staff play and support the children well.
They communicate and engage appropriately with the children and support their continued learning from school well. Staff provide children with a variety of media and materials, which encourages their creativity. For instance, children enjoy drawing portraits and have fun as they construct pictures out of beads.
Children communicate well with each other and with the staff. They ask questions of their friends to help enhance their creations and to gauge their opinions, such as what other colour they can use on their bracelets and what else they could to do to improve their bead pictures. Staff know the children well and can confidently talk about the progress children have made since starting at the club.
Children enjoy a healthy light tea, which staff freshly prepare for them. Staff encourage children to make choices about what they would like to have and remind them the importance of staying hydrated. Children sit and eat together at the table, where they chatter socially with their friends.
However, some staff do not consistently ensure all health and well-being procedures are met. For instance, some staff allow children to move around while eating and not all tables are washed prior to children eating at them, this poses some risk to children's health.Staff manage children's behaviour well.
For instance, they give praise and encouragement to children for helping which helps boost their self-confidence. Staff further reward positive behaviour with tickets for a chance to win a prize from the draw they undertake regularly. Children show respect to others and display good manners as they say 'please' and 'thank you' at appropriate times.
Partnerships with parents and teachers are well established. Staff liaise effectively with the teachers about the children and relay important messages to parents as needed and vice versa. Additionally, parents comment that they are happy and express how much their children enjoy attending the club.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. All staff have a good understanding of their roles and responsibilities to safeguard children. They are confident about the signs that may indicate a child's welfare is at risk and know how to make a referral in the event of a concern.
Staff are well deployed to protect the children and keep them safe. For example, they always ensure that there is a paediatric first aid staff member accessible wherever the children are. Suitable equipment and documentation is in place and is accessible in the event of accident.
