What is it like to attend this early years setting?
The provision is good
Children are happy and confident as they enter this homely nursery. They independently remove their shoes to get ready for their day in this large house.
They form strong relationships with the staff, who are kind and caring towards them. Babies look to staff for reassurance and comfort, while older children chatter away about what they are learning and their own interests. Staff respond affectionately.
This supports children's well-being and helps them settle into their day.Children's behaviour is good and they follow the rules and routines effectively. Children learn how to manage their own risk, such as using stairs... carefully.
Staff teach strong routines that include games and their imagination for children to understand how to keep themselves safe. For example staff and children sing a song about holding the hand rail as they climb the stairs. Staff gently remind children of their expectations to encourage this positive behaviour.
There is a clear and sequenced curriculum that progresses through the nursery. Each room focuses on what children already know and extends this learning through the range of creative and exciting activities. These have been carefully planned taking into account the children's interests combined with their next steps.
This helps children to make good progress from their starting points. Staff have high expectations for children's learning along with nurturing their emotional development.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
The curriculum supports children's communication and language skills effectively.
Staff talk with children, extending their vocabulary, building on what children already know and teaching new skills. Staff are excellent role models as they talk to each other respectfully and calmly throughout their busy day. They expose children to further language development as they play, for example saying the word 'slicing' as a child is cutting some fruit.
Leadership is strong in the nursery. The manager has high expectations for staff and the development of the children. Managers take time to reflect on the nursery policies and procedures to ensure that their practice meets the children's varying needs.
The collaborative staff team feels valued and listened to. Staff are well supported by their managers and enjoy what they do. Regular staff meetings create time for staff to communicate current topics that are relevant to them.
However, not all staff have consistent knowledge of child development at each age. This means that, on occasions, staff have unrealistic expectations of young children.Staff teach children about healthy lifestyles.
They provide regular opportunities for children to develop their physical skills, explore the natural world around them and play together in the fresh air. Healthy lifestyles are embedded into children's daily lives as they discuss their nutritious home-cooked meals and good hygiene routines.Staff support all new children and parents to settle in over several sessions and build strong attachments.
However, as children move through the nursery, this is not as carefully considered, so some children are not well prepared to adjust for these changes. Further information-sharing between staff may benefit children's emotional well-being so they are more confident to transition through the nursery.Children are given a wide range of learning opportunities and experiences that challenge them in all areas of learning.
They are highly engaged in the motivating activities in their classes and outside. All children have access to professional tennis classes, weekly forest school and French lessons. This supports an inclusive environment where all children can thrive.
Staff promote and support children's behaviour well. They help children resolve minor conflicts and teach them clear strategies to achieve this independently. Children's attitudes are positive and they are kind to one another.
They reinforce the rules of the nursery with each other and are caring towards their friends.Parents are happy with all aspects of the nursery. Their children are happy to come in and enjoy their time here.
Parents appreciate the feedback they get on their child's day and the individual updates on their development. They comment that the manager and staff are patient, kind and respect their needs and wishes. Parents feel confident to leave their children, knowing that they are well cared for.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. There is an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first.
What does the setting need to do to improve?
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should: strengthen the settling-in process to support children's transition from room to room focus on professional development to help all staff to enhance their knowledge of child development further.
