What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Leaders and staff warmly greet children as they happily arrive and immediately immerse themselves into the routine. Children show excitement as they decorate biscuits using coloured icing and sprinkles. Older children act as good role models as they help the younger children to pour their sprinkles and spread their icing.
Children use drawing pads to carefully draw portraits of staff, they show deep focus and concentration. Children listen attentively to leaders as they ask children to tidy up. Children tidy away and show good understanding of hygiene as they wash their hands for their snack.
Younger children are confident... and know where to find their favourite activities. They explore the sensory toys, pulling, stretching and building with them. Children have fun and have formed lovely relationships with leaders and staff.
Leaders have set high expectations for children's behaviour, providing children with clear and consistent boundaries. Children show familiarity with routines as they help to hand out snack and then wash up their own bowls and cups. Staff are excellent role models; they show interest in children's opinions and choices.
Staff and children engage themselves in meaningful discussions about their day and things they do at home with their families. Children are polite and well mannered.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Leaders plan the environment well to support children's well-being, ensuring they have areas, such as the library, to relax and look at a book after a busy day at school.
Children enjoy various board games and play together, taking turns showing good knowledge of the games. For example, children independently play snakes and ladders and focus well until the end of the game, showing patience, respect and resilience when there is only one winner.Leaders have built good relationships with staff from the host school, and information sharing is consistent.
Leaders collect children from their classrooms and check with the teachers if there are any messages about the children's day. Children receive continuous care, and leaders ensure they pass relevant information to parents when necessary.Younger children confidently try new things as they explore various foods, such as scones during snack and say, 'This is yummy'.
Older children are curious about how their drinks would taste if they mixed them. Staff encourage this safely and children experiment saying 'It is delicious'. Snack time is a social occasion and staff help children to develop appropriate table manners.
Leaders obtain and adhere to information regarding any special dietary requirements.Senior leaders ensure staff well-being is paramount and provide regular supervisions to discuss opportunities to develop their practice. Leaders have recently completed food hygiene training, refreshing their knowledge around food safety.
Leaders understand the importance of reflection and provide parents and children with questionnaires, gathering their views and opinions of the club. From this, leaders have enhanced their provision by providing more creative activities and resources for children to access. Leaders hold 'back to school' meetings with staff each term to ensure the smooth running of the club, helping children to feel safe and secure.
Parents speak highly of the club. They particularly value the flexibility and appreciate the care their children receive. Parents report on the consistent information sharing at the end of the session.
Parents like the varied choice of activities the club offers and relay how their children are always eager to attend.
