What is it like to attend this early years setting?
The provision is good
Staff build close, warm bonds with children and value each child highly. They settle children in gradually and offer activities linked to children's interests, which help children to feel secure.
Staff have high expectations of children and manage their behaviour successfully. For instance, they ensure that children have space and time to calm down and talk with them about their behaviour. Staff try to reach fair resolution with children and praise them to motivate positive behaviour.
Children behave well. The curriculum is varied and interesting and all children make good progress in their learning. Staff support child...ren's mathematical development well.
They teach children to count by singing number songs and rhymes. Staff teach children mathematical language, such as more or less as children pour water into jugs. Children gain good mathematical skills.
Staff support children's physical development effectively. Children learn to climb on frames and balance and steer wheeled toys. Children develop good small muscle control, for example by lifting and placing puzzle pieces.
Staff teach children about difference well. They teach children about special festivals, such as Chinese New Year, and read stories about different religions and cultures. Children gain good understanding of difference.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Staff support children's creative development well. For instance, children enjoy rolling and kneading play dough to make three-dimensional models. They use brightly coloured paints to make carefully composed pictures, and children develop good creative skills.
Children gain good communication, language and literacy skills. For example, staff read a wide variety of high-quality books to children who listen attentively and make spontaneous comments. Staff teach children new words as they read stories and sing a range of songs and rhymes.
Staff make good use of puppets to support children's language development further and children gain communication skills.Children learn to do things for themselves, such as pouring their own drinks. Staff teach children how to put their coats and shoes on and they help to tidy away toys at the end of play.
Children learn to wipe their noses and dispose of tissues hygienically.Staff have effective links with parents and provide regular updates on children's progress. They provide valuable ways for parents to support children's learning at home.
For instance, parents borrow books from the nursery to read at home with their children. This helps to support children's language and literacy skills. The manager supports her staff team well.
She ensures that each member of staff meets with her regularly to discuss work and provides support where needed. The manager is keen for staff to enhance their knowledge and skills and provides opportunities for training. For example, staff attended a course on supporting children who have autism which led to improved awareness in this area.
The manager understands what the nursery does well and where improvements can be made. She sets goals to build ongoing improvements. For instance, the manager plans to continue to enhance children's communication and language skills in creative ways.
Staff regard children's safety as paramount. They teach children how to be safe in the nursery, for example how to use the stairs with care and caution. Staff carry out daily health and safety checks covering all parts of the nursery to reduce the risks of hazards.
Children learn about the world around them in effective ways. Staff plant vegetables and herbs in the garden with children to teach them how things grow. Children enjoy exploring the textures of different natural material, such as metal and wood, in the investigation area.
Children have healthy routines. They bring their own packed lunches which are stored appropriately in the nursery. Staff provide healthy fruit snacks and fresh drinking water and teach children about the value of healthy diets.
Staff provide daily physical challenges outdoors. The outdoor area has not been fully developed to present a range of activities to cover different areas of learning. These wider-ranging activities would support those who learn best outdoors.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. There is an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first.
What does the setting need to do to improve?
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should: broaden activities in the outdoor area to cover different areas of learning to support those children who learn best outdoors.
