What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children arrive happily from their classrooms after their school day.

Staff escort the younger children while the older ones make their own way, which supports their independence. As they arrive, children look for their friends and staff greet them warmly, asking them about their weekend's events. The atmosphere is warm and inviting.

Children are sociable and engage well with each other. They have good relationships with staff, who know them well. Staff have high expectations of children's behaviour, and the children know what is expected of them.

For example, they hang their coats and bags up without prompting. C...hildren talk about their time at the setting, demonstrating that they feel safe and secure here.When children attend a disco in the school hall, staff support them to find an appropriate place to change into their party wear.

Children compliment each other on their outfits and they twirl around happily as they look forward to dancing. Children show kindness to each other.Children have ample space, indoors and outdoors, to participate in activities.

Staff have arranged football outside in the playground, where they encourage the children to run with the ball and shoot for goal. Children get out of breath and celebrate happily when they pass the ball successfully to their teammates. Staff support children to be physically active.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Children demonstrate a positive attitude to their experiences and are absorbed in planned activities for a long time, proudly sharing their creative results. Staff provide a craft activity based on Valentine's Day, which promotes discussion around the word 'love'. Children describe what the term means to them and they listen to each other as they share their opinions.

Staff present information clearly as they give children options to make heart-shaped bunting or create a Valentine-themed stained-glass window using crepe paper.As children arrive, they are interested to see what activities are on offer. Staff plan the day's activities based on what they know children can do.

They interact well with children, checking understanding and correcting any misconceptions. For example, when children say they have a 'a trillion million thousand of them', staff gently correct them.Children have opportunities to take part in 'Amaze Days', where staff arrange activities so children can explore new experiences.

For example, external visitors bring owls and reptiles to the setting, so children can learn about them, their habitat and how they survive in the wild from experts in the field. Activities such as these enrich the children's learning.Children encourage each other to reach their potential.

For example, they count each other doing jumping jacks. As each personal best score is beaten, children keep count and cheer. Children understand that their behaviour has an impact on others.

Staff encourage children to take part in 'Show and Tell', where they stand up proudly in front of their friends and relay their news, such as a good score achieved at bowling or whether they were picked to play a part in a school play. Children listen and react positively to their friends' triumphs.Children are encouraged to look after their belongings and take responsibility for their actions, such as tidying away toys.

However, on occasion staff do not support children to build on this independence and take appropriate risks. For example, staff do not support children to cut up their own fruit at snack time.The leader has formed a highly effective relationship with parents and the host school.

Messages are passed on accurately and promptly so that children and parents feel safe and secure. The leader encourages the staff team to participate in surveys to promote improvement in the curriculum and the activities they arrange.Parents speak warmly about the staff and activities offered to their children.

They say that staff are very approachable and always there to discuss what children have enjoyed each day.
