This provision meets requirements Fun Fest at Green Street Green is a new club, and has made a good start to providing holiday care for children. Children arrive and are greeted by staff on the door, who talk to them and their parents or carers about what activities they would like to do that day.
They then put their things away and join the main room. Staff hold a daily welcome meeting with children, where anyone who is new to the club is introduced. There are high expectations of children and staff also go over the club rules during this time.
Children respond to adults and follow their requests to line up when getting ready for snack or moving to anothe...r room. The club divides the children into smaller groups each day, which creates a calmer environment for all. They enjoy lots of free play, both indoors and outdoors.
They have daily activities they can join, such as craft or the opportunity to try different sports activities each day, including football or tag rugby. Children enjoy meeting up with friends they might have met at previous sessions or sitting and chatting to staff, who are responsive and attentive to their needs.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
The manager has a strong vision for the club and wants all children to have fun and enjoy the time they spend there.
She recognises that there is lots she can still build on, such as more staff training and better delegation of tasks within the team. Staff say they like working at the club and feel they can go to the manager for help and support if they need it. The manager is present in the rooms and plans to do more supervision sessions with staff in order to monitor the quality of care provided for children.
She already holds online training and meetings with them to discuss anything that comes up that she needs to address.Parents say that their children want to attend the club and are always happy to attend. They like the wide range of activities that the club provides and that staff are easy to talk to and communicate with them well about their child's day.
They also feel that the club is safe and secure.Staff form positive relationships with children, who behave well and respond respectfully to them. Children say staff help them to have fun and understand the rules.
For example, they understand why they must not run because they might hurt themselves. Overall, staff act as good role models and have open discussions with children about why they must use 'kind hands' and words with each other. However, staff sometimes forget to consistently model things, such as using good manners with children, to further develop good relationships with each other.
Overall, children are independent and play happily together. They follow the rules and routines, such as washing their hands before snack and lunch. Children then sit and develop their social skills together and eat the snacks they have brought from home.
On some occasions, adults are too quick to do things for children, such as opening packets without encouraging them to try and do it for themselves first.Children have access to a large outdoor play area, where they can climb, run and develop their physical skills. This helps children learn the significance of being healthy and active.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Leaders place a high importance on ensuring staff have up-to-date safeguarding knowledge. They provide yearly training and updates to all staff and test their knowledge out by asking them about different scenarios.
Staff know the signs and symptoms of abuse and who they should go to if they are concerned about a child's welfare. Leaders have a recruitment system in place and make all the relevant checks to ensure all staff that work there are suitable. They make weekly and daily risk assessments to ensure the different areas children access are safe to use.
