What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children play happily together from the start of the session to the time they go home.
They thoroughly enjoy choosing from the wide range of motivating games and other activities, which staff prepare for them. Children engage in many physical and creative tasks, indoors and outside, which contribute to their personal development, health and well-being. For example, they develop their own games with balls, hoops and tyres.
The manager and staff have high expectations for children's successes in everything they do. Children are well behaved. They are polite and considerate towards each other.
Children respond well t...o staff's very positive examples. They have lots of fun during sessions. Staff build warm and friendly relationships with them.
Children feel safe and they are well cared for. They learn to take good care of themselves with staff's guidance. For example, children ensure that they put on knee pads and helmets, when they are riding scooters and other vehicles.
They learn to listen to staff, and promptly follow their guidance and instructions.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
The experienced and well-qualified manager provides strong leadership to her enthusiastic team. She sets a clear direction for their continued development.
The manager involves all staff in regular planning meetings and encourages them to take initiatives. Staff are reflective and take good advantage of training to develop their skills.Staff act on children's views and interests to ensure that activities engage and motivate them.
They gather detailed information from parents when children first start. They use this information well to help children to make a smooth start to their experiences of the club. Staff ensure that there are toys, role-play and creative activities, which they know they will engage with.
The manager and staff work well with the school that children attend. They share information well. Staff recognised the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children's social and emotional learning, including on those children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
They have worked closely with the school and helped to address gaps in children's development. For example, staff have provided opportunities for children to express their thoughts, and play and work in different groups.The club actively promotes children's healthy lifestyles.
Staff involve children in planning and preparing nutritious snacks. Children learn how to appreciate eating in moderation and about making positive healthy choices. Staff provide many opportunities for children to develop their physical well-being in their indoor and outdoor areas.
Children are well behaved. They play happily with children of different ages, and make new and lasting friendships. Staff involve children in setting the golden rules for others to follow.
They involve children in making their own decisions and expressing their views. For example, they encourage children to make suggestions through the children's council, discussion times and the children's 'suggestion box'.Parents strongly recommend the club.
They feel that the manager and her staff know their children well and value the support offered to them. They appreciate the positive steps staff took to minimise the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. They feel that, although they could not enter the club, they were kept well informed.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.The designated safeguarding lead ensures that staff are well trained in child protection procedures. She holds frequent safeguarding discussions at staff meetings and makes sure that certain staff access the latest training.
Staff have good knowledge of the signs that children may be at risk of possible abuse and neglect. They understand how to recognise and report that children may be at risk from exposure to extremist views. Staff are vigilant and encourage children to think about their own safety.
