What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children arrive happy and demonstrate friendly behaviour as they greet staff and each other. The staff are welcoming and are happy to see the children.
Staff consistently reinforce the rules and routines of the club. For example, not long after children arrive, they discuss the core values of the club as a group. Children demonstrate their understanding by offering their views on why these are important.
They talk about being safe by not climbing trees and explain what they would do if the fire alarm went off. The staff appreciate their input and offer praise. The clear expectations help the children to know what is expect...ed of them and creates an environment of mutual respect.
The staff appreciate the children's opinions. They support children to share their experiences and to play games together. For example, children express that they would like to play a football game.
Staff encourage children to speak to their friends and ask them if they would like to play. Children politely explain that they do not want to play football right now. With staff support, they discuss alternative games to suit the desires of all involved.
This helps children negotiate and they build confidence when they socially interact with one another.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
There have been recent changes to leadership and staff at the club. Although the leader and staff have not been at the club long, they have got to know the children well.
They are committed to their roles and seek to provide an environment for children to relax and have fun in after a busy day. Leaders understand where their focus is best placed. They are driving forward improvement to ensure children feel safe and enjoy their time at the club.
Children demonstrate they feel secure and go to staff for support and guidance.Leaders and staff consider all children when planning activities. At times, children are separated into separate groups that suit their age and abilities.
Children immerse themselves in games that adequately challenge them. For instance, the youngest children play a game that requires them to follow rules and focus. The staff are enthusiastic, and children share their excitement.
Children are kind to one another and show empathy when each other gets caught out in the game. They have fun and show their delight by facial expressions and laughing.Children follow good hygiene routines while at the club.
They wash their hands before snack time and after using the toilet. Staff consistently remind children to do this. Children have a selection of healthy fruits, crackers, and rice cakes for snack.
Staff encourage them to drink water and explain why this is important in hot weather. Children select their choice of snack and sit down at the table to eat their food. Children that stay for the whole session have a second snack.
They choose from a selection of breads, cheese, meats, fruit and yoghurt. This sustains the children until they go home.Leaders and staff effectively risk assess the environment to ensure it is safe for children to play.
They remove hazards and encourage the children to identify dangers for themselves. They ask questions to prompt children to think about their actions. For instance, they ask the children why they should not walk around with food in their mouths.
This supports children to understand why the rules are in place and helps them feel safe.Leaders and staff are working hard to build strong relationships with the children and their families. They understand the value of working in partnership with parents to ensure they are meeting the needs of all children.
