They use a gentle tone of voice and lots of eye contact and they care well for children. Staff ensure that children settle happily by arranging taster sessions, where children experience the club to see if they like it. They have high expectations of children and manage their behaviour well.

Children behave in positive ways.Staff provide a wide range of stimulating activities linked well to children's interests. Children happily use paintbrushes and paint to cre...ate patterns on paper.

They enjoy following instructions and combining different ingredients to make their own pancakes. Staff talk to children to find which new toys they would like to ensure that their views are represented in the resources provided. Children browse through their favourite books as they relax and wind down from their busy day.

Children enjoy playing imaginatively while dressing up as different characters. They explore the sounds made by a piano as they play it. Staff promote good hygiene and self-care skills, as children wash their hands before eating and wipe their noses themselves.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Children take part in a variety of physical activities in the spacious, organised outdoor area. They participate in organised games, such as football. Children practise skipping skills and jump in and out of hoops.

They ride and balance on wheeled toys and staff support children's physical development well.The provider monitors and supports staff well. They spend time in the hall with the children and observe staff practice.

The provider gives staff feedback on ways to improve practice, where needed. They are keen for staff to develop their skills and provide various training opportunities. For instance, staff attended a course on managing children's behaviour, which led to improved outcomes in this area.

Staff work effectively with parents and others involved in children's learning. Teachers bring children to the club from their classes and exchange information with staff to update them on children's needs. Staff relay this information to parents when they collect their children at the end of the session to ensure they are updated on children's activities and needs.
