What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children arrive happily at the club and are excited to play with friends.

They quickly settle into the routine, showing confidence as they select what they would like to play with from the wide range of resources and games. Children demonstrate their independence as they hang up their coats and bags. Staff help younger children to reach the hangers to encourage their growing self-help skills.

Staff know the children very well and plan activities that interest them. Children work together to build towers using wooden bricks and play board games with the staff and their friends. Children understand and follow the rules and r...outines of the club and behave very well.

Staff are excellent role models. Children are polite and friendly and show respect as they listen to what staff have to say. Children are kind to one another.

They effortlessly share, take turns and check in with one another. They respond with 'thank you' and 'you're welcome' during conversations with both staff and friends. Staff encourage children to have a go at activities.

For example, when children find it difficult to thread small beads on some elastic, staff encourage them to keep trying. Staff guide them through the process and praise them when they manage it. This helps children build confidence and self-esteem.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff interact well with the children. They ask children about their day and then listen intently to their replies, responding with questions to engage children in conversation. Staff join in with children's activities.

They talk with children as they make bracelets, encouraging them to share their ideas with friends.Staff value the children. They create a display board with pictures of the children and their creative achievements.

Children are proud to show visitors and their friends what they have made. Staff look after the models children have started to make during breakfast club so they can continue to work on these after school. This helps to give children a sense of belonging.

Staff provide children with a hot snack and drink while they are at the after-school club. They provide different food options for children with allergies and there are robust procedures in place to ensure cross contamination does not occur. However, the snacks provided do not support children's good health as healthy options are not included.

This means that children do not receive consistent messages about healthy food choices.Children speak highly of their time at the club. They talk about how they enjoy spending time with their friends.

Children comment how they love that there is always something different to do. They know they can ask the staff for other resources or activities. Children know if they need help they can go to all the staff and they will support them.

The staff establish good partnerships with parents. Parents are pleased with the care their children receive. They comment how their children are excited to share what they have done at the club.

Parents feel they are kept well informed and they are very complimentary about the care that their children receive.The club is well organised. Staff know what they need to do and work well as a team.

They share responsibilities to ensure that the session runs smoothly. Staff ensure children's safety as they use a walkie-talkie system to communicate as they collect the younger children from their classrooms and when parents are picking them up.Staff build good relationships with the staff who work in the host school.

Class teachers share information as children are collected about how they have been throughout the day. The club are notified about issues that could affect the children's time at the club.Staff plan the environment well.

They provide a variety of craft resources, which children can access at any time. Children enjoy playing with the dinosaurs and building dens for them. Space is made available for children to relax and have some quiet time, reading or making bead designs to take home.

Leaders and staff are passionate about providing high-quality out-of-school care. Staff have regular meetings to discuss how they can improve their knowledge and skills. Comprehensive induction procedures ensure new staff understand their roles and responsibilities.

Staff commented that they enjoy working at the club.
