What is it like to attend this early years setting?

The provision requires improvement Staff establish warm attachments with children that attend the nursery. Staff's inclusive approach means that new children who have recently joined, settle quickly, and feel part of the nursery. Staff know the children well through strong relationships with parents.

Parents share information regarding their children with staff to support their child's development and learning experience. While staff plan an ambitious curriculum for children, this is not fully achieved due to poor staffing arrangements. Staffing arrangements leave established employed staff with additional responsibilities.

For example, in the pre-school r...oom this includes high numbers of additional key children and responsibilities to steer and monitor several agency staff. As a result, planned activities are not always managed well and some children lose interest and become distracted.Staff are respectful and polite to the children that attend and provide a good role model.

Children understand gentle reminders, such as the importance of using their 'listening ears' and 'sharing is caring' towards each other. Children begin to share and take turns from their beginnings in the baby room, through to toddlers and then pre-school. Older children are enthusiastic to learn and eagerly contribute, in preparation for school.

They are happy to share their answers to questions, problem solve and make decisions.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Leaders and managers are ambitious for children's learning. The curriculum is structured well to help children develop the skills they will need when they move to their next stage of learning.

However, this is not supported through effective staffing arrangements to meet ratios at all times of the day, to ensure children are adequately supervised and their individual needs met. Leaders and managers do not give sufficient time, or the careful consideration required, to support decision making that impacts on the children that attend.Staff provide healthy meals, snacks, and fresh drinking water for children.

Staff work closely with parents to manage children's allergies, dietary requirements, and intolerances. There is an established process in place to ensure this information is safely communicated across the nursery. Children enjoy plenty of fresh air and exercise in the outdoor play space.

They learn to cooperate, negotiate, and work together as a team. Children discuss how they keep their teeth clean. They carefully practise their brushing techniques on the large nursery tooth model and know the importance of using a brush and toothpaste.

Staff help children's growing language and communication skills. Babies enjoy looking at board books, while staff narrate what they see in the pictures. Toddlers use wipe boards and large felt pens to begin to make marks in preparation for early writing skills.

Staff introduce numbers and colours, as children count and take away the current buns at song time and the snails in the garden area. Pre-school children identify the letters that make up their name. The special educational needs and/or disabilities coordinator (SENDCo) works closely with other professionals to implement individual support plans for children who need them.

The SENDCo makes timely referrals to outside agencies and ensures that children have specific strategies in place to meet their needs.Parents say their children are happy and that they can see the progress they are making. Key persons share information about their children's progress and photos of their play via an online app.

Parents attend events that support them to continue their children's learning at home. However, parents do not always receive prompt and informative communication from leaders and managers, when decisions and changes are made that directly impact on parents and children attending. This does not allow parents the opportunity to fully support their child during these changes.

For example, changes to staffing arrangements and the expansion of the setting.Leaders and managers recording systems for any incident that occurs at the setting are not consistent. This does not demonstrate a clear timeline of action taken to, address any concerns and meet children's needs at all times.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. There is an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first.
