What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff safely supervise children as they walk from the school to the club.

Older children wait patiently for the younger children to put their belongings on their pegs before going into the club building. All the children independently sign into the club and use a self-register system as they return indoors from playing outside. Children remember to wash their hands before eating snacks and after outdoor play.

They help each other to clear up their pots after snack time.Staff encourage children to be healthy. Children get themselves drinks and independently choose and cut the fruit that they would like to eat.

Staff set out activities which enable children to be physically active and benefit from fresh air daily. Staff model the benefits of this by playing outside with the children.Children at the club behave well.

They follow the club rules and demonstrate how well they listen to the staff members. When two children need help to stay on task, a member of staff joins them and help engage them in their 'zoo activity'. Children use good manners, and staff demonstrate saying please and thank you when talking with children.

Imaginative play is encouraged at the club. Children make up games, and staff support children to develop their imagination. Children play well together as 'pirates' on the 'pirate ship' outside.

Staff skilfully support them as they help them to 'navigate their pirate ship away from the choppy waters'. Children develop their vocabulary skills as they play. Younger children learn that big waves are called 'tsunamis' as they play.

Staff build positive relationships with parents. Parents report that they are happy with the club and the staff team. They feel that their children are well looked after and enjoy the range of activities on offer.

Parents value how the staff encourages all of the children to play together. They say their children enjoy being at the club and are often disappointed when it is time to go home.Staff have developed good relationships with the teachers at the connecting school.
