What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision does not meet requirements Weaknesses in the leadership and management of the club means that children's welfare is not assured. Children are not supervised effectively and, on occasions during the inspection, they were left in the care of an unvetted adult. Despite these weaknesses, children are keen to attend and clearly know the daily routine.

Staff set out some resources ready for when children arrive, and they are content to play with the toys on offer. However, staff do not engage purposefully enough with children. This is because some staff are constantly needed to attend to routine tasks.

As a result, children do not benefit from goo...d interactions that encourages them to think or share their ideas. Staff know about children's interests, which helps them to plan and provide some activities. For example, children dress up in a variety of outfits and organise themselves into putting on a show.

However, staff are too busy to watch. Children have formed firm friendship groups. They generally play cooperatively, and staff remind them to take turns with popular resources.

Children generally behave well. Sometimes, staff do not ensure that children have listened and understood their instructions that help them to keep safe.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Records relating to staff's suitability were not available for inspection.

The provider was unable to demonstrate that a Disclosure and Barring Service check is obtained for every member of staff to ensure they are suitable to work with children. In addition, an unvetted adult was left unsupervised with children. This compromises children's safety.

Risk assessments are not robust and, therefore, some hazards have not been identified. For example, children are left unsupervised in the kitchen, where they can access sharp knives. In addition, staff's personal belongings are accessible to children as they are also stored in the kitchen.

This means children's safety is not assured.A daily register is not completed appropriately. Some children are not signed out by staff and, therefore, an accurate record of the hours of children's attendance is not in place.

This means that children's safety is not assured in the event of an emergency.Staffing arrangements are not effective. Staff do not consistently work well together to supervise children as they move between indoors and outside.

They do not communicate effectively with each other to ensure that children are always supported appropriately by a familiar adult.Children often choose to spend their time outdoors. They enjoy pouring water into a hole they have created in the ground.

They experiment, burying objects in the muddy puddle and taking turns to find them. The available outdoor space contains some resources. Children take part in physical exercise, playing chase and riding around on scooters, which helps to boost their good health.

Staff have established a suitable working relationship with the local school, and they talk to teachers regularly to exchange information. Staff find out about children's interests. They exchange information with parents about children's activities and their time spent at the club.

Children understand the importance of following sensible hygiene routines. They wash their hands before snack and explain that it is to stop them from getting sick. Children enjoy toast with chocolate spread and help themselves to drinks.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective. There is not an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first.
