What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children look forward to their time at the club. They eagerly take part in the themed activities on offer.
For example, they use their creative talents to make fabulous farm animal headbands. They use their own initiative for the designs and are confident to ask staff for their help. Children focus on their art for long periods of time and are proud of their masterpieces.
Younger children learn to cut thick sponge with scissors, while older children add speech bubbles to their animals. They beam with pleasure as highly supportive staff offer them encouragement and praise. Children feel safe and secure as they have warm con...versations with staff who give them time and attention.
Children thoroughly enjoy their time in the large outside area. They challenge their physical skills on the adventure playground. Children play a highly competitive game of football.
They relish the chance to race around the yard. Children persist in learning how to skip with a rope. They follow instructions from staff who urge them to practise and try again.
Children try really hard and are soon skipping on the spot. They have the freedom to practise dance routines and sing songs together outdoors.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Older children enjoy being responsible for helping younger children.
For example, they help the newest members of the club to wash their hands before snack time and show them where to go. Children make their own choices about what they would like to eat and there is a wide, healthy range on offer. Staff support children to try new food and they reward children who have a go.
Children are developing their independence skills. They wash up their plates and rinse them off after the meal. Children form strong bonds with staff.
Partnerships with parents are excellent. Parents are delighted with the care and support their children receive. They have very good communication with staff who know their children very well.
Parents value the wide range of activities that staff provide. They appreciate the close links staff have with teachers at the host school, so that there is continuity in children's care.Children are confident and enthusiastic.
They are happy to share their thoughts about their school day and any news with the group. The reward scheme motivates children to behave well. Staff consistently promote positive behaviour.
Children are proud to have their good work recognised. However, occasionally, staff do not swiftly provide children with the opportunity to fully understand how their behaviour affects others in the group.Managers are reflective in their practice and constantly look at ways to improve the quality of the provision.
Managers seek feedback from staff, parents and children and are proactive in trying new ideas. Managers motivate staff through regular supervision meetings, helping staff to develop their skills and expertise. Staff happily complete training and are a close-knit team.
They are excellent role models to children through their kind and respectful approach.Children take an active role in making decisions at the club. They make up the rules for behaviour for the club.
Children help to decide what activities and themes they will follow. This helps to develop their self-esteem. Children are learning to respect each other's unique personalities.
They learn about the different cultures and festivals that are celebrated in their local community. For example, they try food from different countries, make crafts and read stories that explore diversity.Staff read stories to children with fabulous expression and actions.
Children listen attentively and get caught up in the story. They are able to express themselves and choose how they spend their time. Children wishing to relax and read are able to find a cosy corner on the couch.
Equally, children are able to enjoy being active and play physical games outside. They enjoy spending time with their friends and play with children of all ages.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
Staff have a good knowledge of the signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk of harm. They have a clear understanding of the process to report any concerns about the welfare of a child. Managers ensure that staff members keep their knowledge up to date and they attend regular training.
Managers refresh staff knowledge through quizzes during staff meetings. New members of staff are recruited through safer recruitment procedures and they undergo a thorough induction. This ensures that staff are suitable and have the necessary skills to fulfil their roles at the club.
