What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children are safe, happy and well cared for. They enjoy a busy, purposeful time in the club and it offers them a secure space to unwind after their day at school.
Children form positive relationships with the staff. They choose their own activities and feel valued and listened to. All requirements are met and children's safety and well-being are consistently given high priority.
The amended arrangements to take account of COVID-19 restrictions are well embedded and children consistently follow them. They understand the importance of keeping in the 'bubble' groups they have in school, and show they know the importance of ke...eping everyone safe. The club routine is organised well and children arrive with excitement and anticipation for the day's activities.
Senior staff from head office offer a good level of support and regular training for the staff. They review policies regularly and make sure all regulations are continually met.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Children make friends easily within the club.
They form strong relationships with one another. Despite the current need for social distancing, children of mixed ages enjoy playing group games together while still maintaining relevant space around them. Staff organise this well and work hard to make sure group games of mixed ages can still be played safely.
Children's health needs are met well. A nourishing and nutritious range of snacks is provided. Staff manage mealtimes well, to ensure good hygienic practices are followed to minimise the spread of infection between children.
Many activities take place outside to enable children to benefit from fresh air and exercise after the day at school. Children talk about the many favourite activities they enjoy outside, such as skateboarding, skipping and football. These activities enable children to be physically active to support their healthy development.
The club is organised effectively. Staff are always well prepared each day and offer an exciting range of activities, taking account of every child's different interests and abilities. New routines are currently being embedded to take account of revised ways of working following lockdown.
These will continue to develop as social distancing arrangements are lifted.Children behave well. They understand the simple club 'rules' and adhere to these each day.
Any minor disagreements are quickly resolved and children play together well, showing care and respect for each other.The leadership of the club is good. The manager runs the club professionally and in accordance with all legal requirements.
She is highly organised and makes sure each child's needs are met. Head office staff provide good administrative support and ensure staff keep up to date with relevant training. Quality checks are regularly carried out to ensure the club offers a consistently high standard of care.
Children's ideas are consistently valued by the staff. Children feel confident to make suggestions and offer new ways of doing things. For example, one child proposed an alternative way of organising the children's favourite den-building activity.
The manager acknowledged this suggestion and changed the routine accordingly.Children say they feel safe in the club. They know the staff well and confirm staff listen to them and act on any concerns they may have.
Any unwanted behaviour is quickly addressed. The 'tell-all' policy means all children know they can report any behaviour which makes them feel uncomfortable. Staff are responsive to this and share a commitment towards making sure every child has a positive time when they attend the club.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff have a good understanding of the procedures they must follow to safeguard children. Risk assessments are used to make sure all areas of the school premises are safe.
Activities are carefully planned to take account of children's ages, abilities and interests. Staff know what to do if they have any concerns about a child, or there is a major accident or incident on the premises. Comprehensive written policies clearly explain the procedures to follow and staff fully understand these.
