What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children are settled at this welcoming club.

They arrive happy and excited to attend and show they know the routine well. For example, as children arrive, they put their bags and coats away and sit down for the register. Children choose from a range of activities that staff plan for them.

At the beginning of the week, children are asked to share their ideas of what they would like to do, this is then added to the planning. Staff have clear expectations for children and support them well in their play.Children listen to staff and follow instructions well.

Children support each other while they play. They use their ...imaginations when playing with construction toys to create models and happily talk to their friends and adults about what they have made. Younger children are supported well and enjoy spending time with the older children.

They show that they feel safe and secure and confidently explore the activities.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The new manager has a good understanding of the needs of the children that attend and what she would like them to gain from their time at the club. She plans around children's interests and current events.

For example, children excitedly take part in a creative Easter activity. With encouragement from staff, they persevere with the task and proudly show their achievements.Managers and staff are supported by a wider leadership team, who have a good oversight of the club.

Robust recruitment procedures are in place to ensure the suitability of staff. New staff receive training and are supervised to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities. Managers offer regular one-to-one meetings that provide staff with the opportunity to discuss any concerns they may have, or support they need.

Staff work with the school and parents to ensure there is open communication. Any concerns about children are identified quickly and reported to the appropriate person. Parents report that their children are happy and enjoy attending the club.

Staff know the children well. For example, they recognise if a child is feeling upset and talk to them in a quiet area to ensure they are ok. Children respond well to this.

If children are playing on their own, staff sit with them and talk to them about their day at school and what they are doing.Children are supported to understand the rules of the setting. When, on occasion, they struggle to behave well, staff promptly remind them of the rules to keep themselves safe.

For example, while waiting for registration, children start to roll on the floor. Staff explain calmly to children why they need to sit nicely, and children respond quickly to what is being asked of them and adapt their behaviour accordingly.Staff provide children with daily opportunities for physical activity.

They excitedly explore the equipment available for them in the playground. Children work well together to play games. For example, they work as a team to share and take turns shooting the ball into a basketball hoop.

Children skilfully balance on the jungle gym and show how they can hang upside down.Staff provide children with healthy snacks. Children line up to choose what food they would like and successfully self-serve.

They chatter happily to staff and their friends about their day at school during this sociable time.
