What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Staff collect children from the local primary school and walk them down to the setting as a group. Children enter with excitement and talk to their friends about the activities they would like to do.

Staff plan a wide range of interesting activities, which engage children and help them learn new skills. For example, children have the opportunity to take their cycling proficiency test and help to prepare a menu as they invite parents into the setting for a meal. Staff create an inviting and friendly atmosphere, where children can relax and socialise after the school day.

Children are encouraged to join in with decision-maki...ng and share their ideas with others. There are a wide range of activities which engage children in play and learning. Children enjoy building with construction blocks, making sock puppets and planting sunflower seeds.

Staff carefully consider how every child can access activities regardless of their age or ability. Staff are positive role models. Children enjoy humorous exchanges and jokes with staff and have built close attachments to them.

Children listen carefully to staff and help with the routines of the setting, such as tidying plates away after eating. Older children independently help younger children and show consideration to one another. Children's behaviour is good.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff intend to create an ethos where children feel safe, happy and valued. Staff encourage children to be imaginative and express their own ideas. Children laugh as they make decorated biscuits, colour in their favourite television characters and use fabric paints to make sock puppets.

These activities help children to relax and to express their emotions after a busy day at school.Staff plan activities to help children build their knowledge of the local and wider community. For example, children enjoy playing in the local park and go on a coach trip to see the illuminations with a fish and chip supper.

In addition, they take part in basic first-aid classes. These opportunities help children to experience things they may not have experienced before and develop important life skills.Children enjoy a wide range of freshly prepared menus every day.

Staff ensure that all dietary requirements and allergies are catered for. There are lots of opportunities for children to develop their physical skills, such as playing in the park or playing table tennis. Children are developing an understanding of the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.

There are strong partnerships in place with other professionals. Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are supported well. Staff work closely with parents and teachers from school to identify how they can best meet the needs of all children.

These partnerships help children to have a consistency of care from all their carers.Parent partnerships are good. Staff regularly liaise with parents, to find out how they can adapt things to best meet the needs of children in their care.

Parents are very positive about the care their children receive. They state that 'staff are amazing' and 'there is always plenty to do, they never want to come home'. Parents and staff work closely together, which helps to meet children's needs.

Staff meet regularly as a staff team and are supported through inductions and supervision meetings. They have the opportunity to attend training once a month to develop their knowledge further. The manager regularly evaluates the setting and seeks the opinions of children, such as when she is planning new food menus or buying new resources.

This helps children to build their confidence and see that their ideas and opinions are valued.
