What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Staff warmly welcome children into the club after a day in school.
They engage in conversations with them as they collect them from their school classrooms. Children are supported to ensure that they have all of their belongings, and they are encouraged to independently carry them to the club. This supports the youngest children to learn how to take responsibility.
Staff promote strong interactions between older children and younger children. Older children relish the opportunity to undertake the role of a junior playworker. As a result, they feel highly valued, and their self-confidence is enhanced.
Staff plan ac...tivities that meet children's individual learning needs and topics currently being delivered in school. Children enjoy this extension of fun activities that help them to learn about our individual similarities and differences. Children show sustained levels of interest in creating insects from malleable dough, such as beetles, ladybirds and caterpillars.
Staff take photographs of the children's models to display, this supports children in feeling proud of their achievements.Staff know that the majority of children love to be highly active outdoors. Staff ensure that children who choose to spend the maximum amount of their time outdoors, have opportunities to participate in group games, such as football, climbing and role play.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
The manager is incredibly organised. Staff's continued professional development is given high priority and staff can request training on topics they have a personal interest in. The manager guides her staff to ensure they fully understand their roles and responsibilities, in relation to children's safety and welfare and supporting them to learn through their play.
The manager is very hands on in the care of the children, she enthusiastically leads her staff to ensure children are settled, have fun and opportunities to learn in a relaxed and safe environment. As a result, children want to attend this group even when their parents do not necessarily need after-school care, as they are on leave from work. In addition, children also often do not want to leave as their parents arrive to collect them.
Staff frequently consult with the children about the topics and activities they would like the club to provide. For example, last week children decided they would like to make models of insects. For the following weeks activities, in line with their chosen topic of myths and legends, they have been asked to think the about what activities this could include.
Consequently, children are able to share their ideas and structure how their time is spent in the club.Staff know the children in their care extremely well. Many children have attended since an early age and now attend with their younger siblings.
Although older siblings are encouraged to be involved in some aspects of the care of their younger siblings, staff are mindful to ensure this does not dictate their whole before- and after-school experience. Staff ensure that all children's individual needs are taken into account and provided for. As a result, all children's overall development is supported.
Children's behaviour is superb and they learn to respect adults and one another. This is because staff remind them how to show care and consideration for others. For example, children are reminded not to make excessive amounts of noise as they arrive after school as some of their teachers in school are still working.
Older children are invited to become a junior playworker and lead the group at snack times. They undertake this role with pride and thoroughly enjoy the responsibility.Partnership working with the host school is excellent.
Staff speak to children's class teachers every day to ensure messages get to the children's parents about their general well-being. Staff also find out about what children need to learn and how they can create opportunities to complement the school curriculum.Parents extensively share their views with the inspector at the inspection.
Parents express overwhelming satisfaction with the service they receive. Parents appreciate the manager's superb organisational skills, the variety of activities on offer, the relationships their children share with the consistent staff team. Above all, parents especially appreciate how keen their children are to attend.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.The manager and her staff team are highly effective in ensuring the environment is safe and secure for the children to use. Risk assessments are frequently conducted, and immediate action is taken to minimise any potential risks.
Staff recruitment is robust, references are sought from previous employers and all required checks are completed. The manager leads her staff to ensure they fully understand their roles and responsibilities to keep children safe from abuse and harm. Training is provided for all staff with regard to their local safeguarding partnership procedures.
