What is it like to attend this early years setting?
The provision is good
Children arrive with a smile at this positive nursery. Staff excitedly greet children and provide a warm welcome.
Children separate happily from parents and confidently follow the embedded routines. They quickly settle and join in with activities alongside their friends. Children feel safe and secure.
Children's social and emotional well-being is a priority of this nursery. Staff recognise the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on children's early experiences. They strive to provide many opportunities to promote the areas of children's development that have been most affected.
For example, children use ...all of their senses as they enjoy spending 'mindful moments' in the sensory room. Children take home activities to explore their different feelings. This supports children to develop the confidence that they will need in the next stage of their education.
All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, are making good progress. Children's independence skills are well supported. They are taught how to meet their own personal needs and how to manage social interactions.
Staff model to young babies how to share and older children wash their hands, set the table and serve their own drinks during lunchtimes. Children are kind and caring towards their friends. They choose to help others to zip up their coats, when they notice that they are struggling.
Children are confident, independent, and self- assured.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Staff know children well. They provide children with a range of high-quality resources and plan activities which capture their interests.
Staff ensure that the curriculum builds on what children know and can do over time. For example, children are given the opportunity to bathe dolls and brush their teeth in the water after discussing their own bath time routines. All children make good progress from their starting points.
Staff promote healthy lifestyle choices with children. They discuss the benefits of eating healthy foods and the importance of exercise. Children spend large periods of each day being physically active indoors and outside.
Older children demonstrate their understanding of the impact that exercise has on their bodies. They check their pulse and breathing before and after physical activities to observe the change. They exclaim 'it has got faster'.
Children are being supported to understand what it means to be healthy.Supporting children's physical development is a strength of this nursery. They have many opportunities to strengthen their small and large muscles.
Younger children excitedly jump up and down in the puddles and confidently slide down ramps. Children's physical skills are developing well.Parents speak highly of the nursery.
They state that their children are settled and enjoy attending. Parents particularly appreciate the high levels of communication they receive about their children's learning. They say that their children have received a lot of support with their communication skills and that they would recommend this nursery to other parents.
Children benefit from hearing stories being read often throughout the day. They gather round and become engrossed as staff pick up a book and begin to read aloud. Children of all ages independently choose to spend time looking at books.
Babies carefully turn the pages and point to the pictures. Older children excitedly comment on what is happening in the story. Children are developing a love of reading.
The manager has a secure understanding of the quality of the nursery provision. She supports staff to develop their skills through modelling, high-quality feedback, and training opportunities. The quality of staff's practice is good and is developing further over time.
Overall, interactions between staff and children are positive and support children's progress over time. However, staff do not always know how to respond and adapt their practice in the moment, so that these interactions consistently meet children's needs and build on what they know and can do.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
Staff carry out daily risk assessments to ensure that children play in a clean, safe and secure environment. Leaders have robust recruitment systems in place to ensure that children are only cared for by staff who are suitable. Staff receive regular training on child protection and demonstrate a clear understanding of the signs that may indicate children are at risk of abuse.
They know what actions to take if they have concerns about children's welfare or about the conduct of a colleague. Leaders monitor the deployment of staff to ensure that children are adequately supervised at all times.
What does the setting need to do to improve?
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should: strengthen staff's understanding further of how to adapt their practice in the moment, so that their interactions with children are of a consistently high quality.
