What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children enjoy attending this friendly and welcoming club. They are kept safe and secure by staff who know them well. Children respond well to the high expectations of manners and behaviour that mirror those expected in school.

They take care of each other and the youngest children talk about how their older friends help them out. Children show respect for their environment and resources. They willingly help to set out activities and tidy away.

Children are offered a range of resources that stimulate their interests, both indoors and outdoors. The club has a dedicated indoor space where children can relax at the end of the... school day. Children confidently ask for additional resources if there is something that they particularly want to play with.

Staff engage in play with children, supporting them to develop ideas and persevere with tasks.Due to COVID-19 restrictions, parents no longer come into the club to collect their children. Children have adapted well to this and confidently gather up their things at the end of the session.

Staff take time to chat with parents at the door.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Leaders support staff to plan a range of activities that match children's interests and stages of development. Children engage well in the activities and offer new ideas to enhance their play.

Children draw self-portraits and tell staff what makes them special and different from each other.Partnership working with the host school is strong. The staff work in the school during the daytime so know the children extremely well.

They have excellent relationships with children and respond quickly to those needing support. Children are genuinely fond of the staff and are affectionate towards them. Staff skilfully build on these relationships when supporting children to resolve conflicts or deciding on how to structure a game.

Staff provide activities that complement children's learning in school. These include number puzzles as well as opportunities to draw and write for pleasure. Staff chat with children as they play.

A conversation about a recent trip to the zoo prompted staff and children to remember together what they had learned about the animals there.In the outdoor space, children practise a range of physical skills, such as throwing beanbags to a target, dribbling a ball around cones and taking basketball shots. Staff support children to challenge themselves and try for new goals.

Children enjoy this challenge and talk about how important it is to 'just keep going'.Parents talk about how happy their children are at the club. They value the high standards of care offered by the staff.

Parents say that they receive all of the information that they need through daily catch ups as they collect their child. They report that their children 'love coming to the club'.Children enjoy a healthy snack when they arrive in the club.

They sit together and chat, in a calm and relaxed environment, as they eat. Children are offered some choice in the food they eat. However, the food and drink is served to them by staff.

This means that children do not get the chance to practise their skills by pouring their own drinks or serving themselves with food. Children are encouraged to regularly drink from their own water bottle throughout the session.Leaders regularly monitor the practice in the group.

They use this to support self-evaluation, reflecting on what is working well. Leaders use staffing rotas effectively to support staff well-being. Staff work together well as a team to plan and resource the activities offered.

Staff have the skills and experience to be flexible in their approach to planned activities. They value children's ideas and adapt plans to follow their lead.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

Staff demonstrate a secure understanding of how to keep children safe. They are aware of the signs that may indicate that a child is at risk of harm and know what action to take if they have a concern. Leaders have developed several short courses to support staff knowledge around a range of safeguarding topics.

Risk assessments of resources and equipment are effective. Access to the building and outdoor spaces is monitored effectively. Leaders and staff are aware of ways to ensure online safety and think carefully about the use of technology.
