What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children thoroughly enjoy the club and particularly like the extra time they get to spend with their friends.
As they arrive, they talk excitedly with one another and the staff about what they have been doing at school during the day. Staff use this to plan a wide range of activities at this club. For example, children are celebrating Christmas and skillfully use scissors to make various decorations.
The manager has built a strong partnership with the host school, which ensures that children's education is complemented well by the club. Staff understand children's needs and are attentive to them. Staff ask children what ga...mes they would like to play and what resources they should get out.
Staff engage with children enthusiastically. Children form friendships and have meaningful conversations and listen well to one another's views and opinions. Children demonstrate that they feel safe at the club.
They are surrounded by familiar adults who they talk to if they have any worries, or if they need help with homework. Younger children also seek out older children for support. Children's behaviour towards each other is particularly positive.
Disagreements are rare and children play cooperatively together.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Children are extremely well mannered and respectful. For example, when having their snack, they say 'please' and 'thank you' without being prompted by staff.
They listen well to what is asked of them and follow instructions with ease. Children skillfully use a knife to spread butter on their pitta bread. However, on occasions, staff miss opportunities to talk about the benefits of healthy foods.
Staff plan and deliver an exciting range of learning opportunities and children enjoy involving them in their play. Staff have high expectations of children and incorporate learning into their play very well. Their mathematical development is supported as they reinforce their counting skills.
For example, children use a tally chart to record who wins a game of musical bumps.Staff give children consistent and clear boundaries and expectations of how to behave. As a result, children behave well.
Parents are highly complimentary of the club and its approachable and friendly staff. Any concerns raised by parents before their children start are addressed. Staff gather information from parents about their children.
For example, they find out about children's likes and dislikes, family members and any medical needs. Parents comment that their children settle quickly and thoroughly enjoy their time at the club.Partnerships with the host school are very well established.
Regular communication and information are shared to ensure continuity of care in order to support children's individual needs.The provider holds regular meetings with the manager help to ensure that she feels supported and valued. The manager ensures that all staff are supported to carry out their jobs.
This enables staff to reflect on their practice. Staff bring their knowledge of childcare and their own personal experiences to the club. This helps them to develop activities and experiences for children, such as a varied range of craft activities.
Staff feel part of a strong team and that their ideas and opinions are taken on board.The provider follows a robust recruitment procedure. New members of staff are provided with a detailed induction into the setting with frequent supervisions.
This allows them time to fully understand how to keep children safe and know their roles and responsibilities.The provider and manager have begun to evaluate the service they provide. They have some systems in place to gather the views of the children and some parents, however this is not yet fully embedded to enable them to identify any weaknesses in the provision and ways in which it could be developed further.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.The provider and manager ensures that all staff have a clear understanding of safeguarding issues. Staff know how to respond to concerns about a child's welfare.
The contact details for the local authority are displayed clearly on a notice board. This means staff can find the required information should they need to make a referral. Staff know how to identify and minimise risks in the environment.
Deployment is effective and children are well supervised by staff. Children learn how to keep themselves and others safe. The manager has appropriate policies and procedures in place to ensure children's safety.
