What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Enthusiastic staff provide a welcoming and exciting environment for children. They take into account children's interests and seek their views to guide their choice of activities and resources each day.
As a result, children are keen to join in with their friends to play and have fun. For example, children happily put on aprons and start to prepare the ingredients for a cooking activity. There is friendly chat between staff and children as they make cakes for everyone.
This gives children a strong sense of community and belonging. Younger children have a named member of staff who asks them about their likes, dislikes, and ...other important information when they start to attend. This helps children feel safe and cared for.
Staff are sensitive and responsive to children's needs, feelings and interests.Staff use an effective system to reward positive behaviour. Children keenly ask how they can achieve extra 'green strikes'.
Children are kind and treat each other and staff with respect. Children's behaviour is very good. The highly dedicated staff team work very well together.
They are excellent role models and succeed to provide a before- and after-school club, where children develop life learning skills that will stand them in good stead in the primary school years and beyond.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Children show high levels of enjoyment and motivation as they play outside. They have access to a wide range of challenging physical equipment.
Staff eagerly support children to build their football skills and praise them for their efforts and achievements. Children happily search for acorns, conkers and feathers among the trees and bushes. They enthusiastically use the natural objects to make 'fairy gardens', and pictures.
Staff are keen to broaden children's experiences. For example, they arrange visits by a bumble bee conservation specialist and staff from a local hedgehog rescue centre. Children are supported to find out more about community recycling projects.
This helps children to further develop their interests. There is an excellent relationship with the host school. Staff make very good use of the hall and outdoor environment.
The headteacher is very supportive of the club and there is effective liaison to ensure additional activities are provided. For example, staff and children enjoy organising a special party at Christmas and a water gala in the summer term. In addition, successful arrangements between the school and club ensured consistent care for children during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Parents speak highly of the club and staff. They express how happy they are with the care their children receive. In particular, they are pleased with their children developing friendships and being involved in a variety of fun activities.
Parents feel well informed and enjoy the regular newsletters.Staff keenly join in with children's physical games. They help to support children to follow rules and teamwork.
There is lots of laughter as staff and children throw and dodge the soft balls.Children make healthy food choices. They are provided with a good range of nutritious options.
They politely inform staff of their selection and thank them for their snack. Children particularly enjoy making flavoured milkshakes for their friends. They take turns to carefully measure out the ingredients and write a check list of children's names.
The trustees are very encouraging and provide good leadership. Staff meet regularly to reflect on what is going well and where improvements can be made. Staff take into account suggestions made by children and discuss how funds can be raised with the trustees to purchase new equipment.
Staff talk with managers to talk about performance management and professional development. There is a shared ethos to provide a fun and friendly before- and after-school club for all children to enjoy.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
All staff complete safeguarding training. They are confident to identify any signs and symptoms and know the correct actions they must take to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. Robust recruitment arrangements ensure staff are suitable to work with children.
Children's safety is a high priority. Excellent procedures ensure children are supervised well. For example, staff collect younger children from their classroom and teachers bring older children directly to the hall.
Before going outside to play, staff provide children with brightly coloured t-shirts. In addition, staff make effective use of handheld, portable, two-way radio transceivers to communicate with each other. This helps staff to be confident about children's whereabouts at all times and to keep them safe.
